Seems like you got a real nice replacement. Old one must have been put together wrong.

Yeah, I know that feeling. It's either the bottom falling out of your world or the world falling out of your bottom, not quite sure which. ;)

this new one had totally different screws too. the old ones were flat and flush. These ones stick way up.

I have the older BFG and it maxes out at 70-72 C

You probably had a bad card.

Does anyone here have a physics degree or a degree in metorology because ESD is pretty hard to come by even with the thunder storm outside, many people sware that oh damn ESD fried my computer but normally its human error, and im sry i did read the whole thread and i dont enjoy being spanked for not jumping on the ESD bandwagon, but by now no one cares because its all over and dude glad your new card is sweet enjoy countless gameing hours

    Regards Kuslack

Well, if it's the ONLY noisy bit - maybe a noise delimter? Something that sends out the same sound but 180 degrees out of phase so it results in silence?

I've never built one, but with today's tech shouldn't be a big job.

a WAY later update.... i finally gave in and ordered another AS5 cooler. Yes, the same one. I got up my courage that my dead card was a fluke. This time I did use a grounding strap however. My new AS5 cooler installed perfectly, and my machine is back up and running. I did not use any AC compounds yet. (just the stock stuff for now). This was because I only have AS3, I dont want to bother until I have AS5. The reason I had to do this was the noise. The stock fan was a wind tunnel even at desktop. Now, I cant even hear it. Finally I can hear my SATA drives working again.

Recorded a couple temps, although I did this for noise factor #1 reason.

    With stock heatsink:
    Desktop idle: 39C
Max temp reached while running 3dmark06: 65C

With Arctic Cooler 5 Rev. 3 heatsink:
    Desktop idle: 36C
Max temp reached while running 3dmark06: 57C

With Arctic Cooler 5 Rev. 3 heatsink and slight OC to 501Mhz core:
Max temp reached while running 3dmark06: 58C

The peace and quiet is killer, and I might gain another 5C when I redo the compound to AS5 sometime. My confidence is now restored.

    :speed:

I added Artic Silver 5 tonight. Didnt change the temps at all. But I'll get it a few days to settle.
