My company recently implemented business-continuity procedures for the Coronavirus. I'll be working from home for the next two weeks. Not sure how I feel about it.
I just got forced to stay at home doing home office. Our CEO wrote an email and told all companies to do so. Not a single infection yet (in our company), just for safety. In addition schools all get closed on Monday in most parts of Germany. Our police is already patrolling the borders, doing "checks" (I don't know what they check, temps or whatever). Still I feel not afraid at all. ... Now you know why those exist!!!
No ones reported being Covid-19 but we're conducting a 1 day stress test on the Monday. It's great in the sense that i don't need to drive 40miles, Irish coffee anyone?
Military, not working from home just yet but....I ride a desk these days, and I expect to be working from home pretty soon. Incidentally, you guys see folding@home has a project targeting SARS-CoV-2, which is apparently the virus that causes COVID-19? Let's bring the folding team back boys, team 69411!!!! You aren't making any more cryptocurrency anyway....
Going to work from home starting monday now. Already considering setting up 3 PC monitors, 2 TVs for screens, my 2 PCs working and my work laptop along with my cell (dual sim for work and private) up as the "command station". My parents have left for island vacation one and a half weeks ago, and now they're urged (and will follow the government's "recommendation") to return home three days early. Luckily, no one besides me from my family's still working, so they're out of the equation. On a different note, my best friend's not allowed to stay home because in her company only the one's with kids are allowed to remain home... I find it a little discriminating, and dangerous to think that infections couldn't transmit via everybody...
The company I work for basically said "stay home if you feel sick but come in otherwise" even though it's a tech company and we already work from home 2 days per week. I don't really get it... Doesn't matter, this will be my last week there since I gave my notice to go elsewhere =D
Recommended to work from home. Monitors, I have pivot 24" full hd screen and 2560x1440 27" at home, but it's not double 2560x1440 which I use at work. My home desk, chair, kb and mouse are not as good as those I have at work.
Yep, working from home here. Although we moved to our rural/coastal home in Ireland until this blows over( less people and will be a lot less restrictive ). Luckily i had already planned to setup an office in this place so had already ordered a new screen( 27" 1440p ), desk, chair, speakers, kb, mouse etc. 2 weeks ago( coincidence???? ). Brought 3 laptops, tablets, my gaming PC, arcade controller( for some MAME ), PS4, 34" ultrawide. Have everything setup for work(bedroom turned into office in 2 days, cable management sux ). Need to setup the gaming side yet though but looks like will be plenty of time for that. Setup I have here for work is much better than my work setup, just a little less convenient pushing code. Did a bulk shop yesterday so hopefully wont have to much/any contact with people for the next 5-7 days.
Yeah, working remotely now. Makes hardly any difference. I often do two days per week remotely. Even at office we would "talk" with Slack anyway.
Work is on a secure network, can't work from home at all, and some of it's vital services. No idea how they're going to proceed with this, office of 500 or so people with varying daily staff counts due to people working less than 37hrs
My company decided on a rotating two-week schedule, where half the IT team would work from home while the other half comes in to the office. The higher-ups want people in the office it seems (they don't trust us not to goof off at home) and came up with this compromise solution to the Coronavirus pandemic, which is not really adequate if you ask me - there is no need for any of the IT guys to come in at all. They then have the galls to send corporate emails about how they put their employees first.
I can not work from home although I am pretty healthy for my age and all, I worry about seeing my older friends and family. this totally sucks ballz and not in a good way.
Typical corporate BS..... I work at a Toyota dealership and one of our managers said today that we don't have to worry about getting coronavirus because nobody at Toyota Corporate tested positive..... I don't think she's smart enough to comprehend that we don't physically interact with Toyota Corporate. However, we do interact with customers and other suppliers....all of whom interact with other people.....who may or may not have contracted coronavirus....
So there is no way to open vpn somewhere and then connect to some remote machine and after that to some other machine and eventually to your work pc? Some people use Tosibox to connect to some industry networks... Your job sounds interesting if it's that high security that those are not an option.
I am working on the implementation of a new product and testing workflows right now. Sound more interesting than it is..... pressing buttons, waiting for errors.
Yes, some staff such as really high higher ups and all visiting officers can work from home/out of office (just got a call from a visit officer today who is told no visiting, work from home only), they work via laptops onto secure networks, but that's it afaik, accounting for maybe 2-3000 staff max out of 30k or so. Main staff is in office only. I've no doubt they have the ability to get the rest of us on it, but suddenly rolling out thousands on thousands of surface pro's to all staff isnt feasible. About 20-30% of my office was sent home today, anyone with underlying health conditions. Not me.
This whole thing makes me think that people working in supermarkets are worth more then any office worker.
