Are there any tangible benefits to be had by flashing a different card's BIOS onto your card?

I've heard that doing such can net more performance than merely core/memory clock variables -- particularly, that you can get benefit through tighter "memory timings".

    Any truth to this?

(Sapphire reference 7950 Dual-X, for reference)

Yes there are, for example in my case, my msi hd7850 2gb twifrozr is limited to 1.225v and by flashing it to the Asus 7850 2GB i can use up to 1.3v. Which means, ~1125mhz_core to 1270mhz_core. :)
