Meanwhile on Intel's side: 28c Xeon W-3175X needs 360 Rad with Delta Fans :).

    That's a lot of heatpipes

Quite a behemoth. It would have been nice if they had supplied a photo of it installed on a mobo.

Is it just me or is this cooler as much "semi passive" as any other huge cooler that runs under basic case flow?

Most CPU coolers don't bother with a "0 dB" mode, but yeah, its not that special.

Will be interesting once get some “real world” figures – in terms of cooling.

Looking at photos ... only allows for airflow through radiators as to very small amount (1st flow == good, 2nd/outflow == restricted)

Seems they’ve gone more for aesthetics (/RGB) rather than overall airflow design.

Once get true airflow figs == worthwhile or not.
Really can’t comment more until then.

I guess one could easily achieve similar results with proper fan controlling, but yeah.

  9. "Semi-passive" is like "kind-of married" or "a little bit destroyed"......more of a blow-softening turn of phrase than an actual thing.

But it was a full OC version (and in this exercice TR produce the same amount of heat) and they do the semi-passive version too (for the pro not for the show).

Yes and yes, also semi passive cooling generaly do much noise than a silent fan cooling (you know, those in not sexy color, no mazinger z plastic shell and no RGB led)...
Anyway TR should be in WC to get it's full potential and silence.

    W-3175X "255W" TDP:
Even W/O OC, you could not keep it at same temps like 2990WX, you got extra 130W+ with the Xeon.
Also I don't remember any reviewer tested the noise levels even W/O OC- interesting-no?

Well we all know what it really means, "sometimes passive" (ie. when the heat is low). A lot of things do that these days, PSUs, Graphics Cards, just CPU coolers were typically exempt, since most of them just run off of MB PWM signals, which don't go "off".

Corsair also has done something like this semi-passive marketing recently. I don't get it. Cannot all PWM fans be stopped under certain signal anyway? How is this valid from a marketing point of view?

It's valuable and marketable to people who don't know that one can set fans (on CPU coolers) up like this themselves. They just read that this thing works without a fan spinning (under certain conditions), think it's cool, and buy this hardware.
