    Hi,

I have tried youtube google etc and going in circles in the BIOS and a susual I end up here after I have driven myself mad.

I just replaced my MSI board with this Gigabyte B550 Aorus ELITE V2 (rev1.2) with latest BIOS (it's a nicer board)

On the MSI board I used 'Kombo Strike 3' and I was done.

My 5800X3D was at 1.14 @ 4.45Ghz solid, under load and very quiet and very happy.

At the moment I just don't have the faintest idea... I simply wanted to look for PBO but it's nowhere to be found and absolutely nothing like the youtube videos.

Can anybody shed some light on this? My PC sounds like a hoover.. (temps are fine even with the insane over cooked default vcore but my fans sound like an industrial hoover under load which is understandable considering the default vcore....)

    Cheers.

EDIT: Oh that's my bad, nothing is very clear. I dunno what the FB/FCc means https://www.gigabyte.com/Motherboard/B550-AORUS-ELITE-V2-rev-12/support#support-dl-bios but there is an update for 5800X3D, now i just gotta figure out how to update BIOS on gigabyte boards because DAMN..

    OH it's the 'version' OML..

    RIGHT - I have FB!

Now to figure out how to flash FCc

How unclear everything is utterly infuriating. I literally can't flash the BIOS.

there's no obvious instructions, nothing is like the videos literally no clue.

EDIT: OK I managed but it was a crap show. Video man lied saying it had to be an exFAT USB stick.

EDIT2: PBO is right there now with the latest BIOS update - YAY - just gotta figure out how da fook to use it which I will do tomorrow because this has taken me hours and I am worn out!

    BF2042 with HOOVER FANS

EDITX: So I set manual fan curve in BIOS to take the edge off util I can figure PBO and undervolt my CPU - ideal.

The easy way is to simply use Ryzen Master and the Curve Optimizer. You can do all cores at once or let it do individual cores. When it's done simply apply the offsets and Ryzen Master will add them to the BIOS. Easy.

    EDIT
I used the individual core optimizer ~ took about 1 hour 40 minutes on my 5900x, but now it boosts to 4950 MHz in lightly threaded work.

    Appreciated.

I managed to sort PBO -30 and all seems to be well

I don't think there is any overclocking on the 5800X3D

I use PBO Tuner and have it set to start as an event when the PC boots

I do not fkn believe, how utterly, procreating pathetic and complex, it is, to just ....

    Flash a BIOS.

I don't have words.. for how crap everything is.

My DREAM, for one day, is to just download the bios file from the motherboard manufacturer website, unzip it to a usb stick, enter the bios, select the file/folder and hit UPDATE BIOS.

That's gonna be a special day, I've been waiting 20 years.

I have the same motherboard as you, and the same CPU.
I do exactly that to update my BIOS.
What issue are you having? Did you download the wrong BIOS?

My current Motherboard is the Gigabyte B650 Gaming X AX rev 1.0

I have the right BIOS on a USB stick from the website but it is just not finding it in the BIOS.

I downloaded F5a, unzipped it then copied the contents to a blank USB stick.

Anything more complex than this is a complete failure on the the manufacturers, I can't even find the instructions, even the procreating manual, of which there was none in the box, but the online one, says look ELSWHERE for the instructions

Is the USB drive formatted in the right file format?

    '

This is what happened last time, but it wasn't true, I used NTFS as exFAT didn't work.

I have tried both this time.

I am literally going through the identical thing again, is it 2023? Because it's more like 1997. No it's not me. It should not be difficult to find simple, step by step, instructions. I am back on youtube, again, watching my third video. This guy also says FAT

    Currently here.

I think you might need Fat32.

This is absurd, there is not even an option for FAT32 I only get NTFS and exFAT and last time I used NTFS

I just tried again, honestly, I don't know what else to try now.

In his video he just clicks on update bios and it lists a bunch of his bios files LOL - this DOES NOT HAPPEN for me.

    It's what SHOULD happen!

May I ask, do I need anything more on the USB stick than the .F5a ?

Jesus christ I am honestly exhausted with this, AGAIN.

EDIT I have found the official instructions

. From GIGABYTE's website, download the latest compressed BIOS update file that matches your motherboard model. 2. Extract the file and save the new BIOS file (e.g. Z68XPUD4.F1) to your USB flash drive, or hard drive. Note: The USB flash drive or hard drive must use FAT32/16/12 file system. 3. Restart the system. During the POST, press the key to enter Q-Flash. Note: You can access Q-Flash by either pressing the key during the POST or pressing the key in BIOS Setup. However, if the BIOS update file is saved to a hard drive in RAID/AHCI mode or a hard drive attached to an independent SATA controller, use the key during the POST to access Q-Flash.

    S
traight from the horses mouth, FAT32, now I must figure out how to do that. One thing after another....

EDIT2 How to Format to FAT32 in Windows 11 (4 Useful Methods) - EaseUS *SHRUG* doesn;t work all I get is exFAT

    "
Step 1: Type Disk Management and select Create and format hard disk partitions. Once it opens, it will display a list of hard drives and partitions.

Step 2: Right-click on it and select Format. Be aware not to use this operation on an EFI or Primary partition. You will be denied access even if you do so.

Step 3: You can set up Volume label, Format 32, as the format option. Once done, you can use it through File Explorer."

I literally updated bios today on B650 board from asus. It took 2mins with the same instructions.

You can use bios flashback option if nothing works.

    I managed.

So, it turns out, you need a 32GB or under stick. Then you can simply format it as FAT32.

I tore up my spare room and some how, found an YEARS OLD 32GB stick from 1863. Passed down for generations. I formatted this to FAT32 without issue, put the BIOS file and booted into Q flash and well, did what was obvious to do.

I maintain, 100%, this crap IS NOT ME.

I suppose the big mystery is how DA FOOK did I update the BIOS with my 128GB NTFS drive on my previous Auros B550.

Only the ghosts of the sons of mountain delwoowii will even know.

    Now that you mention capacity.
A few months ago I tried to format and reinstall Windows, but decided to use an Sata SSD (512GB) that have in an USB enclosure.
But the UEFI didn't recognize the unit. Never figured out why.

I had no idea either. I just updated an MSI and Asus AM4 motherboard without any issues. Good to know the drive size matters!

I do appreciate all the help.

Shouldn't be needed though, and don't get me started on the price of these bottom of the barrel motherboards, which fail to include a simple paper manual.

It depends I guess some mobos maybe support NTFS formatted sticks.

Anyway wanna know a neat undocumented feature? You can just as well place the BIOS file on the root of any hard drive or SSD and select it from there, just run Q Flash from within the UEFI setup.

Works on my B550 Aorus Elite v2 (rev. 1.1) and worked on my previous ASRock X370 mobo.
Even if both claim the BIOS file must be on a USB stick.

Having discovered that I much rather have BIOS files on hard drive than USB flash drives.
