I bought the new XP today Pro full install. I love it. No problems runs great and man is it freakin fast. Must say I am very impressed.
THings that sucks.
If something happens and system crashes it wants to send error report to Microsoft.
It can only be installed on one system..If you install and the cd key is already in use it won't let you continue.
if you change anything in your system beyond a certain extent. it deactivates and you have to call MicroSHaft for reactivation.
But these are small compared to a stable OS. If it proves to be stable in the upcoming months.

You know folks, so much of this O/S bashing is bullsh!t....a lot of it is actually down to your individual PC's, and how you use them. Now I don't treat my PC like a delicate child, I frig about with beta drivers, and O/S's, the kind of things that many people run scared from because they reckon it'll toast your system. Wrong. If you follow instructions, don't do stupid things to it, or get rid rid of it if it does look like trouble, then you'll be OK. I've used Win ME since it's early Beta days, and praised Bill Gates for the improvements over 98, and now with XP, I've been doing the same thing!! I have build 2600 full Pro version of XP, dual-booting in perfect harmony with ME. And once software manufacturers get the promised patches for XP compatibility out (c'mon Roxio, where are you??), I'll be saying "bye bye" to Win ME!!

Please don't go taking offence to the first part of my message, by the way, I only said it as it seems to me that several people with similar rigs will have all sorts of different problems, mainly down to how they use the PC. I work in PC retail, and we sell hundreds of Compaqs and HP's and it's amazing how many come back because 'so called' Computer Guys screw around stupidly, and blame the machine, or Windows, or both....of course it'll crash if you go into DOS and delete your Windows folder...."DUUUUH??!!"

This new Windows seems to be finally, what Microsoft promised us with '98, and again with ME.....
I upgraded, and won't be going back

Well, the theme here seemed to be from people who've used it - thumbs up
Since my frigging system wouldn't work any which way with 98se, I upgraded over the weekend. And you know what? Everything worked perfectly first time. Graphics card works in all modes, able to swap between joysticks/game pad no problem. And installing a piece of hardware is so easy my missus could do it... plug the stuff in, don't even get asked for a setup disk, it just goes and gets it itself from Microsoft... this is how Windows should have worked all along.

Boy am I glad I put this in!
All this talk is starting to make me waver. I can't believe I'm actually thinking of changing. I finally have w98se working with no crashes in 2 months. The crashes were mainly do to my goofups. Since I only game and surf, I'll stay put for now. But this itch to have the latest is relentless. I think I'll get a ddr board first. It is good to hear the comments, good and bad, and let's face it the perfect os is a fantasy.

I have XP installed and it is very stable. My only complaint is that I have an RCA Lyra2 MP3 player that uses a Flash card reader. Its not compatible with XP. When I try installing the software for the reader XP restarts and restarts and restarts in an endless loop. I had to use Last Known Good. Hopefully RCA will write software that will fix this.

LuvMaster...yep, it's now just a case of waiting for everyone else to catch up with Microsoft again, and get some new drivers out. They have little excuse really, for not already having them...XP has been around for a while now, and it's not changed much from RC-1 version, and that was months ago!! I mentioned Roxio, in my last post, they supposedly worked out the CD burning side of things built in to XP, yet STILL haven't released the promised patch to make CD Creator 5 work under XP properly....whats up with that??!!! It can't be that difficult, since they gave Microsoft the technology!!
Anyway...apart from that, XP is not the 'perfect O/S' by any means...it does have a habit of forgetting things...my dial-up details for one, every time I reboot, I have to re-enter my username and password, though it does remember the 'phone number....!!??!! And I'm the Administrator!! Regardless of whether I tell it to save this, it still forgets it!! And it seems to forget my USB printer too, though once I delete it, and reconect the USB cable it recognises it and loads a driver, and within seconds, I'm using the printer again!!
Apart from that, it's about as close to 'perfect' as we can really expect, I guess....it does most things BLOODY well, some things very well, and forgets a couple of small things. Oh well!! It's great for games and is rock solid, and has more 'features' than you can shake a big stick at....some usefull, some not so, and others, more cosmetic. But, all in all, the best thing from Microsoft yet...and far more useable for the general public than, say, Linux will ever be.......

well I'm not going to knock Linux. I just think that Linux and Windows XP are two different classes of Operating Systems. I did have a real problem at first with the way Microsoft made everything so "bubbley" with XP. It almost felt like they designed XP for a Woman. Alot of viberant colors and huge icons and that really tacky click on your icon to log into your profile thing. I guess I just don't handle change that well. The OS is stable though so that is one very good reason to upgrade to XP.
