I hope so. That kind of draw is insane. I can see why California started banning gpu sales with the energy issues in their state.

california isn't banning gpu sales, thats a dispelled rumor, the law only pertains to full systems.

Really? My apologies. So you can't buy like a pre-built?

pretbuilt only from my understanding, but i can see if happen to sepertate gpu sales if the power usage just keep going up.

I know Dell is prohibited from selling/ shipping certian pc to the state. sure people can get around that easy if they really want too

We are using 3080ti and 3090 with 1000w bioses. No problem to use even on air. Card's pulling around 550w max. Water is ofc better, and then it's easy to cool it.

PCI-E Gen 5 connector is 600W spec(3090Ti will use it and Kingpin will require two Gen 5 connectors). So, next-gen top-dog cards will consume 500-600W. Get ready for big time failures(Like EVGA 3090 - New World).

Also, Greymon55 and Kopite7kimi are reliable sources.

Msi 3090ti Suprim X will have 3x 8 pin. Same wil most of the 3. party 3090ti have. :)

Overclocked 3090ti and 3090 on air with "unlimited" bios will draw about the same. In some scenarioes 3090ti will draw less watt, due to better bin (most likely) and a notch better effency due to "full chip"

Asus strix 3090 with Elmor tool and Evga 3090 kingpin can draw north of 1000w, if you want. It depends on how far you want/dare to turn the "volume" up :D

Spec capability and actuality are not the same thing.

Agree with this. Specs make a lot of claims and make for bullet points to sell the hardware on what it can do. What it will do and what's supported and the amount of time to reach it's potential is always a different story.

Yes, i know. But all leakers say that next-gen will consume around that. ''Double consumption, double performance''.

If they stay within spec, that is 450W max (plus whatever they dare pull from the slot). Far from the 2x 600W connections which are rumoured for some top of the line 40-series cards.

I know most well designed PSU will deliver alot more, but for 3x 8-pin that is the spec GPU makers have to respect. Those 1KW bios are technically overclocking the GPU and PSU.

IMhO 4080 should have 2x8Pin variant, if not i'll passsssss ;)
But if You want 2x3090 perf. then 500W is very likely a thing.

    2x8Pin RTX 4080 should have 20-30% better perf. than 3080 12GB.
Im more into it from RT perspective & not simple raster...

I would prefer 1x PCIe gen5 power cable to 2x8pin cables, looks cleaner.

Efficiency wise Ada would be >50% better than Ampere due to superior node, but yeah to reach 2x of 3090 would require ~500W. Living in tropical region I have no idea how to cool 500W GPU + 100W CPU for extended period of time :D (probably need to lower the AC down to 18C and risk getting heat stroke going outside the room :p)

all 8 pins should be phased out.
