They hyped that up for like two years, saying it was going to be revolutionary.

Then it really became nothing and faded to dust. I just was thinking of that for some reason and wondered if anyone else remembered.

I think Halo 2 was the only game to use it.

no m8 css and tf2 dont allow you to play while installing .. the click play button highlights but then another box pops up with the same waiting time as the download takes

The next thing we'll get is that you can play the game that you're installing over a cloud, while you're installing it on your PC. MARK MY WORDS!!!

halo 2 was the only one to have this. as it was released while all the hype was going on about this method.

Some Commodore 64 games had this feature over 20 years ago, even some budget games had it,you could play space invaders while your real game loaded on Cassette or 5/quarter inch diskette.

The games i remember having it were Way of the exploding fist and The Great escape on the Kixx label.

half life 2 has something like that, you can certainly play before the whole thing is downloaded anyway

HALO 2 was the promise of MS, and yes it does what it promises.

Community for Halo 2 pc is pretty decent still, new content coming to it always.

But the idea and the concept is not bad at all, it just never caught on. Doesn't mean it was a ****ty idea or anything like that.

    Tekken 5 has that.. :D

Seriously though, it seems completely useless. But sure they could include some minigames, but what for really..

Only game I know of that uses it is WoW, which is nice since you gotta download like 25gb if starting from scratch.

    It's pointless anyway.

Who wants to play whatever portion of a game that happened to install properly before the installation process is over? And the I/O activity of the installation in itself would make loading whatever was installed painfully long for no reason and might corrupt the rest of the installation. It was a bad idea, and PCs were never meant for that in the first place, I'm glad that Microsoft realized it soon enough.

Indeed, that last time I tried to get back to the game I saw this future myself in the launcher, was pretty handy...

    Whats the use?

There are so many things to do while installing a game,
i dont get the benefit of the idea, seriously.

And the words "Microsoft" and "revolutionary" dont go well together in one sentence. ;)

This idea was good years ago in the 8 bit days as the medium to store data was cassette so the games took about 3-8 minutes to load depending on the game,so it was worth playing a game instead of staring at a loading screen while waiting for the *proper game* to load up,also a great programming achievement with only being able to work with 64k of memory, however nowadays its utterly pointless as games load in few seconds,so why bother with this feature, its silly.

They should rather concentrate on seamless level streaming, like Dead Space did.
