Yea so I restarted earlier and now Microsoft added this ridiculous thing to the taskbar. It's annoying the hell outta me. It only shows up when you move the cursor over it, but still. I don't like it.
Right click on taskbar > News and interests > Turn off https://techcommunity.microsoft.com...interests-on-the-windows-taskbar/ba-p/2281005
In my opinion this "feature" wasn't ready for public release. Currently, the "final" version still occasionally breaks the system tray/notification area of the taskbar just as some (including myself) suffered when it was in the beta channel for Windows Insiders.
Not only that. It also refuses to update automatically, so the information is there and it's just static until you hover with your mouse. Also it doesn't give you the option to switch news site, like if you don't prefer Bing like many people do. This just seems like a new way to fetch data from users using their news platform. It seems kind of similar to the Edge start page, but just a little bit more polished.
It's just an extension of the start page feed. It's probably just a new attempt to get people to use Edge as their primary browser.
I try do disable it, by removing edge from startup, but that gives strange errors, I also try to disable cortana, new errors. (strange, as cortana self tells me that it isnt available in my country)
Learn to use group policies, they are the best way to disable "features" (annoyances). https://www.tenforums.com/tutorials...s-interests-taskbar-windows-10-a.html#option1
I dont see why it was need we have them in the start menu by defualt and if we have it there we dont need it or want in the startbar. it just another case of MS way of thinking and how dumb it can be. And jokes on them Edge might be install on my system again cause dont feel like removing it again but all it other stuff is realatied to is disabled, unitll remove it again
M$, for real? What's with this app that nobody asked for? More bloat shoved down the user's throat labeled as a new feature.
yah I only DO use weather app but i have the tile in my start menu and that is only place i want, luckly that was not put in my start bar when I update to 21h1, probably cause i that stuff disable in gpedit to being with along with fact i have news feed and what not removed from my install
As someone mentioned GPE is the cleanest way, once set you don't have to remember any setting or reg changes that may get reversed.
The first thing my father asked after the update was how to turn off the news thing in the taskbar... hahahaha!... If that annoys my dad you just know your average person is going to be annoyed by it. gg microsoft
In true MS fashion, there though are "we like and think good, and you will like and ask for more" MS has lost touch with PC side things and what people want there OS to do and what they dont care about. Windows 10 is truely boated more so then when it first launched. I still get why i need Xbox crap built in the OS with no way removing, I dont own Xbox consoles and I never will. as I will never by MS hardware in anyway
When you mean Xbox crap are you talking about the apps (Xbox, Game Bar, etc.)? You do know how to uninstall apps using the Get-AppPackage function in PowerShell? If you don't look it up, you can clean up the OS quite nicely with it.
Some apps are connected to each other. For example, the video editor and photos app are connected, so if you remove one, it removes both. I've honestly never had any real issues. If something really doesn't work then I'll reinstall the app from the store.
