How many people who set there screens to 1024 x 768 or 1152 x 864 use 100Hertz refresh rate for your games if your monitor can handle it?

I use 1024x768 on both monitors and 75hz refresh . Can only go up to 85 with my monitors but I get better results at 75 .

I use 1024 all the time and my refresh is 100 all the time.

60Hz is all my monitor will handle at any resolution. But it doesn't bother me. Resolution is usually 1024X768 or 1280X1024. I have a feeling that will change with games coming out later this year, but I hope to have built my new machine by then.

I use 100Hz in 1024x768 and in 1152x768 (my favorite resolution).

I feel the same way. If someones uses a lower rate and it works better than a higher one I dont understand that. Why would a lower one work better than a higher one. Just curious

If people disable vsynch, then they can run at lower refresh rates with no issues I suppose. Also, in some instances, if you are saturating your monitor's bandwith at max refresh you may get less IQ than if you drop it down a notch.

Also, if you do have vsynch enabled, you can run into a situation where, lets say your game can pretty much always maintaine 80 FPS, but very rarely 100 FPS. Very very rarely will it drop below 50FPS. In this instance, you will get a higher overall frame rate if you use 75hz as apposed to 100Hz because since the game mostly doesnt hit 100FPS it is going to default to 50FPS with Vsynch on. However, since it can almost always hit 80FPS, then if you use 75hz you will get 75FPS rather than 50FPS. The only issue is when it drops below 75FPS, in that case you will get only 37.5FPS, as opposed to the 50FPS you would have had if you used 100hz refresh.

It is sort of complicated to decide the perfect refresh rate as this varies from game to game depending on how hard the games push your vid card. I just give up, set it at 100, and figure even if I am stuck at 50FPS that is very playable in most of my games.

Too many variables to take into account to give a summarised answer.
As dboniuk mentioned It is sort of complicated to decide the perfect refresh rate as this varies from game to game depending on how hard the games push your vid card..

I would say it will depend on your drivers, monitor's capabilities and probably more importantly your gfx card and the settings you have given said card.

I always set V-Sync to off in both D3D and GL and anyone who is forever trying to squeeze everylast fps out of their game/system should have it disabled too because as dboniuk has already explained ,V-Sync caps your max framerates.
The 'Disable V-Sync' for D3D is under the 'More Diect3D' button as well as a setting to set the amount of frames you want to pre-render.

At 1024X768 I run at 120 Hz refresh. Normally I run at 1152x864 at 100 Hz. I love my monitor: Sony CPD-G400 19" Trinitron.

"because since the game mostly doesnt hit 100FPS it is going to default to 50FPS with Vsynch on,"

Why would it? if you run fraps or the in game fps counter it never defaults to 50fps

sounds like SH ite to me lol

you are stating that fps in a game are a constant, but there not are they.

I always set my v. sync off too both d3d and gl.

You know I was looking in the local classifieds today and someone was selling a 1 year old 21" monitor for $100 obo
I called to find out what kind it was but they had already sold it and would'nt give me a chance to ask any ?'s. They must be retarted to sell a 21" monitor for that price. Something must have been wrong with it. But it said like new. Interesting huh?
