4% on a synthetic benchmark can happen without changing anything.. How does overall performance feel in games? This trick really is dependent on ones setup. Most will have negative effects, some will have gains and better overall performance.

The first idea sounds terrible. Just saying.
What's the theory behind installing without AHCI?

HPET Off both in windows and in bios has finally made my computer feel like it is worthy of playing games lol.

Seriously, I have had this thing two weeks and was getting pauses/stutters you name it. I have been frequenting these forums on the hope I may pick up some info and this has done the trick!!

Just played through Amnesia with no stutter whatsoever?? Amazing. Before this tweak it would stutter before every event that occurred.

My overall latency has decreased by 600 and I am around 60-70 now. So smooth its awesome. Thanks!!

TSC is faster than HPET but isn't really meant for multi-core architectures. At the end of the day HPET should be much more stable but not faster than TSC+HPET(w/ Syncing). By turning off TSC and syncing you actually free up the CPU which might increase your performance.

Almost anyone who can disable HPET in bios and windows has noticed a bit less performance but with less stuttering while gaming!
For who has forced HPET on in bios the best solution it's to try enabling and disabling in windows, there are a lot of factors and i think also a bit of placebo effect :p

I been having issues with some older windows games from windows 98 era responding really slow to commands

I turned hpet to 32bit mode and turned it on in windows and the games response time increase drastically.

and its not placebo. I timed the difference.

    I could provide video..

if fraps and msi afterburner detected the games, which they dont.

the games run on directx 5-7 with bad directx 7 support

normally I have hpet set to 64bit. but I dont think the older games where liking it. that when I changed it to 32bit and those games acted alot better

10 pages of evidence that it affects different hardware differently.

I personally have to keep HPET on in the BIOS. If I disable it I get massive judder in games and some in Windows.

If I put HPET on in BIOS and on or off in Windows I don't notice any difference apart from LatencyMon telling me my latency is less with it off in Windows while being on in BIOS.

So those people above saying it has to be off are wrong. It's different for all it seems.

    It's there for a reason :)

windows 8 = hpet on + enabled + set timer resolution tool -> 0.5 milliseconds

that's the smoother and faster windows capabilities whoever says hpet-> off is nice, he is lying, he is losing fps and introducing judder and stutter in all games

just because hardware is acting differently doesnt make them a liar. very ignorant to say imo
