This will be bad, Holmes is british it just won't work set in the US. Life on Mars is a classic case of a great UK show totaly screwed up when set in the US.

And as for an american James Bond there are 2 that are quite close, Dirk Pitt and Jack Ryan.

Aw....would you like a shoulder to cry on? :(

Back OT, an American take on a British comedy wouldn't work, American humour is just too different - it's much more in-your-face compared to the drier Brits...

Some shows, like Friends and oh god some utter crap I watched the other night...forgot the name (with Ashton Kutcher) are the reason I don't watch much TV. - Canned Laughter is an insult to the viewers intelligence imo.

I thought RDJ made a good Sherlock though.

RDJ was a terrible SH, well he was in the first movie, not subjected myself to the sequel yet.

Technically things like Monk, or even House are spins on the Sherlock Holmes story, so not sure how a direct remake is going to work without changing so much it’s no longer anything like the original.

As for Bond v Bourne, two very different movies and books, nothing alike other than the fighting style, which these days is in every other action movie.
Casino I loved, but Quantum I hated, Bourne Identity I love, but the two sequels I just put up with.

I have to say the same thing, this constant slandering of America is getting out of hand.

The United States brought many things to the world stage that everyone shares, uses and participates in.

I personally love British humour and don't see anything wrong with American remakes, some are good some are not, so be it, if it fails it fails, if its a hit good on them. Either way I don't see it making the original any less valued.

Homeland wasn't originally an American show, as it was originally created in Israel, and remade for American TV.

They're obviously just trying to cash in on the success of the Robert Downey Jr. Sherlock Holmes movies.

Also the arguing in here is cute.

British humor....My mother thinks that Keeping Up Appearances is the funniest show in the world (some 1990s Brit show). I think it is dumb, but I managed to find all of them on DVD.

Top Gear is funny some times, but that doesn't really seem like Brit humor. Lots of Americans think it is a really funny show. I only thinkg it is funny some of the time.

I watch almost no TV so I don't really know what shows are good.

I think it's more to do with the fact the actors in the original shows are normally much better than the ones in the remakes

For example I can't imagine fools and horses without David Jason but then again I can't imagine Married with children without Ed o'neill

Another example is Craig Charles plays Lister very well, where as where as Craig Bierko in the USA version wasn't cut out for it, not saying he's a bad actor but that particular role wasn't suited for him (he even stated this btw)

Personally I dislike some American/British comedies where as I love others, remakes in general tend to be rubbish regardless of which country is doing it

Keeping Up Appearances was superb. It's just a type of humour that some Americans fail to understand. I never found Friends funny, but it was mega popular compared to much (much!) more cleverly written shows like Only Fools and Blackadder. Each to their own i guess

I understand the comedy of the show, it just isn't that funny. She is a middle class house wife who tries to fit in with upper class society and wants others to think she is wealthy and famous. Friends isn't a very funny show either...I don't know why it was popular. Seinfeld, the Simpsons, King of the Hill (more often than not). Tim and Eric are pretty funny, but that is very niche humor and some of the shows are not funny at all.

So, honestly, who cares what country did it first?

@OP, would you have even bothered to make this thread if a German or French studio decided to remake Sherlock Holmes? Or is it strictly that an American studio is doing it?
