If it can't be crossfired, then sounds like an acceptable limit.

I have a feeling this launch is going to be so much smoother than Nvidia's.

Scalpers find these sort of letters outrageous. That's why one of them, working in a retail store as an infiltrator, leaked the letter to the public domain.

somehow doubtful. you really think the majority of retailers give a crap? sold is sold to them. what's AMD gonna do if they don't comply? not sell them the cards next time?

I don't know. Ever heard about a company giving a damn about their customers? Clearly Nvidia hasn't or has forgot.

If shop can't get me card while other shops can due to sending all of them to someone who just want to F* with people, I'll buy from other shop which has supply and remember it in future.

F* their clients will result in loss of long term sales.

Yes, quite literally. AMD realistically have the power to that. If fat Navi is as good as we're expecting, it's going to sell out even if it's all from a single store.

If a seller ignores nVidia's orders they'd 100% do that, they know how to keep fear in their partners.

And as mentioned above, if a shop fracks over a niche market, which let's admit that's what high end PC gaming is, they're going to hurt their own reputation. That's not worth doing in order to sell out instantly vs sell out over the course of a few days. My local PC shop manager tells me he thinks there's even a realistic chance to pre-order, which would be limited to 1 person, pretty much guaranteeing real people (not scalpers) get one if they want.

I've seen limits for the amount of video cards you can purchase already in the past, this is nothing new.... it's nice to see really, anything to stop miners from gobbling up all available inventory before any actual gamers get a chance at purchasing them.

Or maybe it's just to combat nvidia's favorite customer, scalpers

i'll believe it when i see it

"we had captchas, but it was literally gone in seconds"
is AMD going to check one by one what a shop's clients have bought. don't be ridiculous. not only that, probably also in the gray when it comes to legality of disclosing client info to even producers.
in Europe, shops get their hardware from a wholesale network.

The problem is that the e-tailers prefer dumping their stock in a few quick orders. They make their margin and have to do less work.
This is something that some would have to be required to do in order to receive more than a couple of cards.

Nvidia ridiculous launch wasn't caused by scalpers. They are a plague, but it wasn't the problem. Nvidia launch was something quite similar to a paper launch, with very few units available, and they knew that since the beginning. They just wanted to release the product ahead of AMD, and that caused a lot of issues like scarce availability and bugged drivers (the initial problem of crash to desktop).

Not all , in Poland they are few shopping respecting buyers and selling only 1 card per person and keeping the queue. What You said is logical and many do that , but some shops care for reputation as margins are already low in this branch, and this somehow translates to better sales long term.

I doubt it will be a smooth launch, specially if AMD isn't enforcing any kind of policy with retailers.
That said, a letter is better than no letter. But trusting retailers not to sell everything to one person is just dumb, they just care about money.

As a developer... implementing all of that into a working website would not be possible at last minute, and if it was, would probably be buggy as hell, as no time to do proper testing and regression.
