By the time AMD comes with an answer nvidia will throw the big Pascal at them in the form of a new Titan and then maybe a 1080Ti, both likely next year. I don't see how AMD can come out with a HBM2 card this fall, unless it's extremely limited supply/paper launch.

BTW - welcome back man! :)

If the 1070 to perform around 980ti (both overclocked), has 8gb vram and runs cool and efficient, it'll be a killer buy for around £350. We're all speculating, but if this is the case, a lot of people will buy these.

980ti are not dropping in price in the UK yet.

    Thanks man.

And yeah, I'm sure nVidia have a counter for whatever AMD has up their sleeve. It's been the case for the last few generations. Shame, I'd love to see AMD fight nVidia next month, make me make a decision which way to go. It would have been better for all gamers. Unfortunately, for those waiting to upgrade, it'll be a toss up between a 1070 and 1080.

Did I say it was the big or small version? Did the dude in the demo state that? No. This is what is being stated by what I wrote. All one has to go by is by what is available. Why roulette was mentioned. They have effectively shot themselves in the head before the gate even lifted. Nvidia may have fumbled the whole "founders" debut but the cat seems to have stolen AMD's tongue.

Um again no.. The dude (Richard Huddy ) actually said a month later that it was p11 (engineering sample) , when amd confirmed that p10 is the big one.. And saying that amd is down without any info on upcoming cards is silly.

p.s there is more to the gaming market than the 1080, if p10 is on par with the 1070 and a bit cheaper or even the same price, in the end it will be a price war.
Amd did show p10 running hitman at 1440p at gdc

If anyone can, it's AMD. It's the only company that has ever released an HBM card. Seems like Nvidia decided to rather bet on GDDR5X. If AMD is betting more on HBM2, it woud make sense with their prior experience.

Saying they can't get an HMB2 card out this year is like saying Nvidia can't get a GDDR5X card out, yet they just did.

nvidia is betting on one sku and that is the 1080, if vega does actually come in October it could be that it will use 5x on both sku

Do they have Device ID for Vega? Or some actual readings?

Why at gdc did they only demo p10 against the 950? They have disengaged their brain. They are sending mixed messages about their new release. Like I said all one has to go on is by what is available. The wise move would be to demo it against the best card it can stand up to or at least something in its perspective class. Something they have clearly not done if going down a comparative route. Always best to just demo without comparison to the competition's offerings.

Dear God in heaven.. the first demo was at CES and they used the ES SAMPLE of p11 vs the 950 in star wars battlefront, at gdc the event called capscain they used and pictured ES SAMPLE of p10 running hitman at 1440p/60

They demonstrated what they achieved and stated, it is likely to get better.
And I think, you may have missed my #100.
Message was clear, Power Efficiency and great performance for entry level GPUs on desktop and very good for notebooks.

Question is: "Is GTX 950 power efficient?"

Thank you. The p10 was demoed against the 950 on power draw at gdc as well. That was the whole point. All that can be said is that it is a huge drop in power consumption. Otherwise they are hinting that they are not that confident in their own product. Why it's best to stay away from comparisons with the competition. Other than that, it is the usual attempt at generating hype.

@other: Comments like "Dear God in heaven" only shows how easily one gets exasperated over trivial matters. Those that think they know everything are annoying to those of us who do.

People seem to believe that AMD is OK because HBM 2.0, do you really think memory bandwidth can solve this crisis? because i really think AMD is screwed here.

If the 1070 sells anywhere near the 970 or even more if it's as good as people think it's going to be.I really think AMD is in serious trouble and will have to take more loses by trying to compete by sell cards at a loss.

They are going to have to sell the highest end card at a medium price just to compete and that's going to be painful.

So much for AMD has the DX12 lead as it might not even have competing cards this series and if this is true they must know that Pascal came out much better than expected.

If you are an AMD fan are you really going to upgrade using them again?

I want AMD to do well but if Zen does not come out swinging i really think they are doomed for years while Intel/Nvidia take even more of the lion share.

The amount that the 1070 solds depends on the performance and price of Polaris 10. it is quite obvious that NVIDIA and AMD both chose not to compete in the summer cycle. AMD COULD have gone for a bigger chip, and NVIDIA COULD have gone for a slower chip. Neither of them did those things, instead we have:

    1) Raja Koduri talking about "surprising" price/performance ratios.

    2) NVIDIA showing a part that has greater performance than most expected, but no cheaper part and simultaneously raising the price of the top part by $100.

AMD is going for the low/mid segment, and NVIDIA is going for the higher one. AMD already has design wins for the next rounds of consoles and the next Macbooks, so they'll be completely fine. Even with Vega, if the Tesla card is really the next Titan, Vega will be probably slower, but with a much better performance/price ratio. After all these years of fighting they both seem to try and hold different segments of the market, and the only question at this point is the budget that each of us has.

I personally see myself between the Polaris 10 part and the 1070.

Instead of saying "just lol" why don't you write a post and explain to him why he's wrong. I disagree with his post and honestly I could write why, but I assumed someone else was already doing it. But no, here you complain about the forum becoming more and more like wccftech and your contribution to it is just as bad.
