In a direct answer to Intel's Nehalem AMD is showing some teeth as well. AMD currently making the preparations for a worth-mentioning Nehalem competitor. The chip manufacturer's upcoming 45-nanometer...

I think Nehalem will come end of the year, a server chip and an enthusiast one.. like Kentsfield and Yorkfield came out towards the end of last year and end of 2006.

The quad core nehalem's come out towards the end of summer, 8 cores by the end of the year.

Crap. News to me that Intel are looking to almost entirely kill overclocking and tweaking.

It is currently unknown whether it will be as overclockable as Intel's counterparts, but this is highly unlikely to happen, given AMD's conservative stance when it comes to tweaking its chips. Intel took the same approach with the Nehalems, and rumor has it that only the Bloomfield-based high-end offerings will be ale to go beyond the default clock speed.

I wonder if this AMD 8core will be a huge FLOP like the Phenoms

    OR

Will AMD FINALLY drop the Price of a HIGH END intel chip to a price the normal person can afford

Be good to have AMD come back in with some competition.

Hopefully they'll make it 8 cores and not cop out and just make it 7 cores instead.

I'm still not sure what they were thinking with those other 3 core ones.

Uh, they weren't met for you. They were ment for OEMs because there is a gap between their dual core offerings and their quad core. There was no K10 dual cores yet, but they can release the triple core which costs them nothing extra to make AND preforms just as well as the quad-core for 99% of the people who buy OEM computers.

The problem is, AMD has great tech on paper and power point slides, but when it comes to action, they get "performance anxiety".

Sorry did I miss the part where all the software developers said they have suddenly started coding for systems running 8 threads?

Last time I checked software developers have barley got their heads round quad core systems can't see 8 core software coding coming by the time these chips hit.

Is this the new GHz war? Strive to stick as many cores as you can on your chip even if it has no real world benefit to the consumer?
