....."Before getting too excited, this tiger team appears to be primarily focused on AMD enterprise customers leveraging the Catalyst driver, but not the casual Linux gamer or enthusiast."....

    Or dodged The Bullet?

On more serious note, AMD is hiring people for drivers for over a year now. We noticed some of skills required like: multi-threading coding, WDDM experience and so on.
While those people by design may have been hired for W10+DX12 implementation, it does not mean they'll be fired afterwards.

It is even possible that W10+DX12 teams are already or close to be done with their branches and some are simply moved towards code parts which need attention now.

Sounds to me a new more proactive support team for the larger software development organisations to turn around bug fixes faster and not an analysis team to work on drivers for performance improvements.

If AMD wants to get rid of their bad reputation they need good drivers, so it's a start. Their Windows 10 WDDM 2.0 driver gives a glimpse of hope that things might be changing for the better.

What happened to DX12 in Windows 10? What happened to AMDMatt?

Where's that guy again that told me the same driver team can be working on many branches at the same time? If so, why'd they need a special team?

Hi there little one. If they name those 5 people working on given branch a special Tiger team, it is their business, but in the end they are not working on new separate driver, they are working on particular branches.

I guess that you do not consider 4 man Fire teams as part of army, but you think them as fully independent units...

Hello Ancient one. Your driver team's so capable that we had to wait 4 months since the release of Catalyst Omega for another official Beta driver, 15.3 on Windows 8.1, meanwhile Windows 10 had gotten three or four different drivers at the same frame of time. But then again, you know better, which is why the currently available Windows 8.1 drivers are inferior when performance is concerned.

Well, imagine it other way around...
AMD makes this improvement of W7/8.1 1st, but on other hand will not have support for W10/DX12 at W10 launch.
AMD sells no graphics card afterwards.

Their decision to put more qualified people towards upcoming technologies is right one. Since W10 is behind corner with all it brings.

Well, this sounds very reasonable.. and it is exactly what I meant in my other post. But maybe I presented it in the wrong way. /Respect

Look! Someone admitting a mistake! Stone him! :)

Apart from joking, it looks like expert people who've had enough of the obvious amounts of bureaucratic cruft in the place, and they try to bypass it completely. That's one of the good changes you get for having an engineer as a CEO I guess.

For older people remembering "Catalyst" themselves was an answer to NVIDIA's "Detonator", and it really closed the driver gap (it even made it better for a time I guess).

Nice, maybe GCN will be fully unlocked in DX11 apps :D
    Interesting when?
