It seems AMD just one-upped Intel's anniversary edition chip!

    Trade Your Prize. 8086K for a Threadripper™ 1950X CPU.

So, this is AMD kind of trolling Intel.

But this is funny as hell.

I wonder how many of the winners will actually do that... I think it's more PR work than anything else. But yeah, made me grin :D

You have to agree this is better marketing than overclocking a 28 core CPU to 5Ghz being cooled by a refrigerator unit and call it a product.

"But, we’re ready to take it from here."

    Oh, too delicious. Genius phrase.

Thanks again (this time for the laugh) AMD.

Yeah, I figure this might not work out so well for those who already bought a motherboard, because they're going to have to buy yet another one for this CPU (speaking of which, AMD would still see some profit in this ploy, from the mobo sales). Besides, only the diehard Intel fans would buy an 8086K, so they're probably not going to be so easily swayed. However... I'm sure there will be some who are enticed by this, in which case they may see a returning customer.

No matter how you look at it, worst-case scenario, this ends up being a nice publicity stunt for AMD, and is a funny middle-finger to Intel.

    so 8086k $425 vs threadripper 1950x $750
    the exchange give $325 profit

i bet some people will do this... if they not win, unopened products can be returned anyway

I don't think this is for regular customers. As stated, it is for "winners of the Intel® 8th Gen Core i7-8086k Limited Edition Sweepstakes". Basically, it is for the 8086 people who got a 8086K for free.

Remember that these are giveaways only to people who won a free 8086k from Intel in Intel's giveaway--and only the first 40 of those. People dumb enough to actually buy this thing aren't eligible, apparently...;)

Ha, then that's even MORE of a middle finger to Intel! (One-upping the Intel giveaway, while devaluing it in the process!)

Not sure what the big deal is other to yell "16 coarsssss!"---the 8086 will be faster in just about any game. And I say that as a proud 1950X user. They dont overclock well, and their single thread performance (even in turbo) isn't as good as my old 4790K.

But they were never intended to be gaming CPUs anyways. The 8086, i'd imagine, is largely purchased by gamers.

Feelsbadman for Intel. If i was one of the 40 i'd swap it instantly. AMD is basically giving those 40 people free money. I'm not sure what AMD will do with these Chips but i'm pretty sure 40 samples of an enemies product will be reverse engineered maybe? Who knows?

Maybe the 1950x isn't as fast for gaming but you could sell it new for 700$ and re-buy an Intel chip of higher quality, either way it's a good funny PR stunt.

btw TR prices are super low atm seeing them(1950x) for £670 right now down from £850.

Someone at AMD is a trolling genius or a sarcasm legend of some sort.
Poking Intel where it hurts and done in such a way.
Sorry Intel, you earned this and you know it.

I would do it, since the 1080Ti is still the bottleneck in my system because i play at 3440x1440p.

They purchased nothing. Only the free prizes qualify for the exchange.
