On Twitter AMD's vice president of channel sales Roy Taylor showed a photo of a box with a new FX processor. The SKU indicates that the CPU is paired with liquid cooling. Unfortunately the photo is r...

I remember when they first announced the new FX's they had shown with liquid coolers. Better late than never I guess.

Those have been available for years over here. Doubt they'd handle 220W, though.

Is it wrong to hope for tweaked piledriver or better yet steamroller modules on 28nm, would be awesome

I posted in the other thread about this. It's probably the FX-9590 with an AIO.

I don't see what the point is in releasing another 8 core processor now that they have HSA out. It's pointless! A big number of the workloads that can make use of 8 CPUs can be accelerated if executed on GCN's hundreds of 16-wide vector execution pipelines.

Physics simulation and many AI workloads can be accelerated substantially if compiled to run on top of HSA and utilize the GPU part of the APU. Now that you have shared memory space and straightforward shared execution of threads without context switching, why not to put all those teraflops of execution resources to good use?

    A pointless release!

Oo i do hope these are new tech and not 2 year tech they used for those old chops, i really want amd to compete with intel for once, so intel stops resting

tsunami231 its AMD all they got is 2 year old CPU technology. Gave up on them with bulldozer.

i gave up on long before that, but because AMD can even begin to compete with intel in the desktop market, intel has gotten lazy or been hold back performance increase then been slight performance increase over that last few generations. or so people around here like to complain about anyway.

    AMD Ghz = junk

    Intel Ghz = improvement

It's sad to see AMD go this route, but 6ghz AMD still won't match 4.4ghz Intel

They are doing this because if the i7 4970 at computex no doubt.

If it really is say a 5.8-6Ghz AMD, so what? It may come close to a 3770K at 4Ghz IF that. That is being VERY generous too.

    Architecture makes a big difference.

So yeah, that tdp would make the chip even more worthless. So I agree.

    With any luck, new architecture.

I seriously doubt this will be new architecture. Too soon for that.
    Probably not even steamroller.

AMD CPU's are barely acceptable, intel are vastly outclass them in any parameter, that why Sandy Bridge was the greatest and still nothing can replace it.

Probably rehashed bulldozer, it time to leave that in the past.

Kaveri annihiliates intel as an APU...

    So did Piledriver, TBH

And this is why AMD slapped in a decent iGPU to their APU range. To make them VERY worthwhile for new system builders, people who want a big punch for little money, or people who want a cheap second mini PC in the living room.

The A8 5600K was a beast for its price range, and devoured anything Intel had to offer as well let alone the A10 APU's and now with Kaveri and the refresh coming soon and maybe a price drop on the higher models.

Paired with the right memory (2133MHz DDR3 or higher) these are some seriously good budget builds. My friend on Steam has an A10 5800K and he plays all the games he wants at the settings he wants and gets very good performance at 1440x900 and even some games at 1080p. He played BF3 with me many times.

Now if you talk about mid range CPU's and high end CPU's (i5's or i7's) then yes AMD can not compete at all. I think with the release of Conroe (Intel Core 2) that CPU range was so good and so well priced AMD did not have a leg to stand on as I think they got too cocky with the Althon 64 range which dominated the P4's back in the day and they let Intel gather some serious leads with Conroe.

they would be very ashamed if their APU couldn't outperform intel graphic, the only thing that good about that APU

C2D was intel wake up call, AMD never had answer to that, they started the prices war and from there till now... someone said back in 2005 when amd dominated with A64 that once the giant wake up, they be in trouble, HOW TRUE

the 4790K will replace the 2700k imo without much issue, and likewise the i5 4690k will replace the 2500k pretty easily.
