If i do not disable MPO and set 8 bit color depth i blackscreen within 2 minutes on whatsapp video call if flip model optimisations is on, and i do not when i do whatsapp video call with app on 2e screen as 2e screen MPO is not supported.
If i set 10 bit color depth it also does not blackscreen under 2 minutes, if MPO is now also supported on 10 bit then it is probably only 8 bit color depth MPO that is broken.

Maybe should stop telling people to set MPO to disabled and instead tell people to set 8 bit color depth so MPO is properly supported and reducing latency which is beneficial to games, then more people get issues with these drivers report more problems, and AMD will pull their hair out cos they not realizing MPO is the problem ⱼₖ

Disabling MPO is a temporary solution.

Maybe this method can improve the experience until AMD or Microsoft fixed this problem.

Yep, anyway going around recommending people to set 8 bit color depth to get reduced latency in games in new drivers sound like comedy gold trolling as cruel as it sounds it will lead to feedback loop AMD cannot escape until they realize the problem, anyway on 10 bit color depth MPO is disabled anyway so perhaps its not worth keeping enabled yet anyway as its not fully supported yet, unless MPO behaves different on 8 bit color depth as on 10 bit color depth.

This MPO problem exists for Nvidia as well. 8bit 10bit or whatever doesn't change anything for me, MPO works without issue so far. I'm also on windows 11 dev ring latest update

I got black screens in Edge with MPO enabled even with 8 bit color depth.

Have not had a single black screen since disabling MPO.

His point was that if you have your monitor set at 10 bit color or higher MPO doesn't activate even if you enable it.
On 8bit color depth enabling and disabling MPO is ok.

Yes i kinda meant that as a troll attempt to bait more people into having the issue so they then complain and give feedback about having issue as well, kinda like posting a thread on r/amd and saying that to enjoy reduced latency you must enable 8 bit color depth for games that play in fullscreen borderless and enable flip model optimisations.
Its not wrong technically speaking, cos on 22.5.1 this is stable but on 22.5.2 and up the problems start :)
Its kind of a troll because we known MPO at 8 bit color depth atleast gives issues, im not sure if MPO is actually disabled at 10 bit or if it switches to a 10 bit vision of MPO that is not broken, this requires an expert, i think its safe to say MPO disables at 10 bit.

I found a reddit topic recently where it said that MPO does not support 10 bit and 12 bit on nvidia sub reddit, thats when i decided testing 10 bit color depth as well without disabling MPO.
I already had tested this without realizing i could not reproduce blackscreens, so i wanted to test this to confirm it which i did yesterday.
    edit: found source https://www.reddit.com/r/nvidia/comments/qffxcz/mpo_multiplaneoverlays_are_amazing_you_can_play/
This is why i wanted to test if i still have blackscreens if doing whatsapp video call on 2e screen or on primary with 10 bit color depth

@SpajdrEX mind sharing this to the AMD team?

We are just guessing about MPO really, AMD can surely see if it is the issue or not.
Or maybe disabling MPO indirectly helps work around something else?

MPO hates losing control over synchronisation like vsync being forced off, you could not force vsync in 22.5.1 and one of the more recent drivers can force vsync now so it may be related to this.

I am personally suspecting AMD forced enchanced sync to be on all the time in default state, even tho its turned off, and the switch does nothing, while forcing vsync just limits fps to refresh rate, and they did this to fix blackscreens or rather claim it fixed it probably because their test setup was done on a 10 bit color depth and not at 8 bit color depth.

GPU: RX 5700 XT (Gigabyte gaming OC, newest VBIOS)

Recent drivers in which this problem does not occur: 22.3.1

    Examples of drivers affected by this problem: (21.Q4, 22.5.1, 22.6.1, 22.7.1, 22.8.1, 22.10.3)

Problem: broken HW acceleration in VMware workstation, chromium-based browsers.

VMware workstation: Whenever I run a certain Windows virtual machine with 3D acceleration enabled, there is tearing when moving windows or scrolling in the browser.

Chromium-based browsers: There is random stuttering of the mouse cursor when I launch the browser or while using it.

    It's supported on both. There's RGB8 and RGB10 MPO as of 22.5.2

Its probably not enabled yet inside windows or alternatively only RGB8 is broken

Working fine on my end with windows 10 22h2 and windows 11 21h2. I'll upgrade my windows 11 install to 22h2 to verify.

Can you test with Netflix/Prime/Disney app if VRR still works for you with 10 bit? It doesn't with Nvidia.

Had my first issue in a long time yesterday. Took the PC out of sleep and it woke up with a grey to black flashing screen - one frame grey flash to one frame black and repeat. I turned my main monitor off and my secondary on which worked fine and then turned my secondary off and main on which then worked fine. I have no idea what that was about. I kind of recall that happening like maybe a year and a half ago or so but am very fuzzy on the details.

Seems like a bug with the memory... any ideas?

To be clear, you want variable refresh rate for video playback? I don't think FreeSync / VESA AdaptiveSync / GSync should engage for this use case. If it does, it's probably a bug.

Can you tell us your display model?

It's by design with these apps in fullscreen for fluid playback so you don't have to manually switch refresh rates. I already know that it works with 8 bit on AMD too, question is just if MPO really works with 10 bit on AMD.

I'm not sure I understand how this is this an indicator of RGBMPO working on 10bpc

Because MPO is a requirement for that video VRR.
