So after 9 years, I managed to scrape together some cash to do an upgrade and got myself a Gigabyte DS3H el-cheapo motherboard with a Ryzen 5 7600X and a 32 gig set of GSKILL Ripjaws 6000 at cl30. I shelled out quite a bit of cash (compared to my disposable income) to get a cl30 kit as AMD CPUs tend to be quite sensitive to this.

And then, I hear about this AMD burnout issue. Now apparently it mainly affects 3D V-cache CPUs and ASUS motherboards, but the rumour is that other models are also at risk.

Now my question is: Is my poor little 7600x at risk given that I use the EXPO profile of my Ripjaws RAM and the voltage gets set to 1.350V, which is what may cause the problem? Should I set my RAM to 4800 cl40 and wait for a BIOS update, or is it fine to run it as intended?

    Thanks a bunch!

Wouldn't worry to much, all I did was lower the SOC voltage (memory is still stable below 1.2V for me).

This video has a lot of info.

Did you update the to the latest bios? I have 7600x and asus B650, soc voltage was 1.35v now its 1.3v and i manually reduced it to 1.25v still stable with expo 6000 cl30. No issues.

For some reason all motherboards overvolt the Soc voltage in expo. i've managed to get mine to 1.15 6000mhz cl30. And yet auto was 1.35. That's a fairly substantial difference. I know I have a 7950x, so it more than likely has one of the better memory controllers due to binning, but still..

this is why i now set my 5700x to 4.6ghz @1.25v.

because on Curve Opt it reaches as high as 1.35v+

i don't want to lose my 5700x and my x470 mobo..

Thanks, mate. It is an amazing video. It was what prompted me to start this thread.

Not yet. Gigabyte still hasn't made an update available to deal with this issue. The latest one was when the 7800x3d compatibility update, so I'm waiting for a newer version before flashing.

Thanks everyone. I'll try lowering the Vsoc to 1.2 or 1.25V and see if my Ram will still run at 6000 cl30.

Asus is much faster in that regard ryzen 7000 and x3d already got an bios update few days ago limiting the soc voltage. Idk why is gigabyte so late.

So, given how long it has been since I did any overclocking (a decade or so), I'm quite rusty at BIOS editing. Where exactly should I adjust these voltages? In the RAM settings or elsewhere? If you could post a screenshot/photo, I'd be grateful!

i was mistaken. i thought that my 5700x can't go lower than 1.25v.

but in fact to be able to get to 4.625ghz. my 5700x only needs 1.1625v.

i have tested the voltage for 4.65ghz but for now it have reached 1.17v but still failed.

and i decided to stick with 4.625ghz on 1.1625v for now

    Absolutely can't stand his voice.
Also not a fan of his speaking ability, a lot of redundancy and he often changes subject in a middle of a sentence, but he does have knowledge to share!

This is mainly an ASUS issue, but it's also so overblown.
You really must try and actively kill it.
Just limit SOC to 1.25V and for now do not use EXPO if you fear the issue, or at least monitor the voltages.

Asrock and gigabyte also reported issues so not mainly asus. I dont think people should fear using expo profiles if using latest bios on any vendor. 1.3v limit is enough for 6000 cl30 to be stable.

From my testing, it is stable with SOC voltage at 1.25V so yeah.
For now though i don't use expo, but i'll soon.

The issue is that if you set SOC voltage to 1.3, it's actually closer to 1.4 volts on an Asus motherboard. The issue is mainly an Asus problem.

On my asus b650 soc voltage is 1.27v with expo enabled.
