That's a fantastic price for a great CPU.

So... released in the end of September, and getting a substantial discount in February? I'm surprised.
I guess they are indeed batteling for the consumer CPU field.

Once again, confirmation that AMD overpriced their CPUs.
If only AMD had priced their CPUs and GPUs right, maybe their client division wouldn't have had a 51% drop YoY.

Its still a steep price if they are trying to entice AM4 owners to come over, the 7700x maybe offers the same performance that many are seeing on a decent AMD 5*** series CPU anyway.

It's not just a question of being overpriced, people aren't buying new hardware because of the economic downturn and because they are already stuffed with all they bought during the pandemic!

So AMD has no choice other than lowering their prices, and the same applies to Intel and Nvidia.

They have to lower prices. The cost of Mobo's and Ram are killing their sales. Also, the 3d chips a near to release. Pretty good price!

Yes, demand is lower. But consider that Intel "only" had a drop of 36% YoY on the client division.
If AMD had priced Zen4 better, they would have sold significantly more and have a drop in sales that wasn't as big as 51%.

If the 7700X is dropping to $300, I'm much more interested to see what the 7700 will be - I'm much more interested in that. I care much more about performance-per-watt than peak performance.
RAM prices are actually not that bad now (at least in the US), but yes, mobos are the real issue for me. Too expensive and not enough ITX choices.

Boards are the biggest issue yes as B650E which you'd want for pcie5 cheapest is around 250Eur. Ram prices are down but not by alot. 32gb 6000 cl36 kit costs 200Eur.

There is also an issue with mentioned 7700 non-x which is priced the same as 7700x. I find that very strange.

That is the quandry AMD is in right now.

The market is soft, the AM5 is a bit pricey and sales are down.

There are millions of AM4 platforms out there so huge sales potential for the 5800x3d.

If the 7000x3d's are a big step forward then the 5800x3d should drop in price a bit. But the 5800x3d is also the gaming cpu "golden egg" laid at the last minute for AM4 users. That golden egg for AM4 was a slap in the face to AM5 sales.

Check out the "Inland" store on Amazon. It's run by Micro Center. Some good bunbles on AM4 cpu/mobo combos. Maybe start having deals om AM5 stuff.

all too true but you're seeing a different end than what AMD wanted you to see.
AMD wanted you to see that they're still supporting AM4 as the 5800X3D is still current.

but the effect is as you say.
Intel is doing much of the same with AL, but they're deliberately cannibalizing RL and hoping AMD gets caught up in the wash.

5800x3d is only good if you have am4 board/memory but if your building a new system there is no reason to go for it and its better investing in am5. 7600x will be just as fast for gaming and platform has a future it only needs more price drop to be even more appealing.

    85% oh hell yeah
15% responsibility to shareholders by not "eating" TSMC fab increases (and incl. the same profit margin)

I'd much rather pay less and have PCIe 4.0, but with the way things are, looks like I don't have much of a choice. The good news is, I've committed to buying a new GPU before CPU+mobo, so, I can wait for more models to be released (and for lower prices).
I can get the same RAM for $160. I think that's reasonable for what you're getting.
