From the looks of it AMD is about to reposition the pricing for their Radeon 7800 and 7900 series graphics cards. Check out what the new prices will be: Radeon HD 7970 GHz Edition - starts at $430 Radeon...

The 7800-series pricing is very compelling, though I wouldn't get a new card before the 8k-series anyway.

Yeah the price is compelling if you own a really old card (8800gtx and such). For 6950 and 560ti owners like you and me it's barely an upgrade. Even for 7850 and 460 owners it's not worth it imo it's better to get a used card for about 60-80$ and crossfire then if possible.

For people owning a card from the 2 previous gens the only real upgrade imo are 670ti, 680 and 7970.

Like you i'm gonna wait next gen (end of next year). Might upgrade the whole PC"

    Performance-wise that's very true.

However, personally I care more about the power consumption and noise level these days and my 6950 is a hair dryer even in idle. :(

I'd get a custom-cooled Sapphire 7850 if I were to buy a card today, though like I said I'd reasonably have to wait for the 8-series before an upgrade.

Those are some real nice prices there it would be a good time to build a new computer for a friend that wants to get into pc gaming, could build a very powerful rig for a good price.

My 6950 is custom cooled so noise is not an issue ;) It's really a silent card.

I must say though that the 7950 Windforce at 280$ CAD with sleeping dogs is really tempting.

Sadly I got the stock option, which is quite a good card with no corners cut but the cooler is terrible.

I'm extremely picky though, if I can hear the machine in a silent room it's too loud. Everything else is quite quiet in comparison, running the 140mm CPU fans at 700 RPM for example.

Anyway, when I get around to upgrading it's definitely going to be to something with a noiseless cooler.
