AMD for the MOST part -- as INTEL does -- DEALS PRIMARILY with PREBUILTS. Yeah, us CUSTOM BUILDERS are QUICK to forget THAT FACT. If the MAJORITY of their market consisted SOLELY of custom builders, OBVIOUSLY -- OBVIOUSLY -- they would NOT have stated such.

wow Shaxuul, that's a contender for most annoying post of the year.

AMD confirms what any sane person would believe their intent was with that clause, unfortunately it was probably written by a lawyer who doesn't even know what a cpu cooler looks like.

    Also just one point:

if you are OEM you can buy the CPU only, (like 99% of the OEM do)
now with that thing you will be nearly forced to buy your CPU WITH the cooler...

    money, money, money...

Well what are the chances AMD is going to send an investigator to your house to look inside of your rig? Rma your cpu, remember to wipe it clean of your non oem thermal paste, and don't ask don't tell what cooler you used. Wink Wink<-------no emoji!.

None of this is anything new. Back when the FX8350 was first released I had a problem where two of the cores would consistently error out in stress testing and I was getting random crashes as well. I sent an email to support asking about possible heat issues and mentioned my temps while using a CNPS9900 MAX. They informed me that using anything other than the stock cooler would void the warranty, but that I should file an RMA.

I ended up RMAing the CPU without issue and got a new 8350 that worked fine. It seems more like a "cover our ass" kind of thing to me, something that they have in the fine print just in case someone does something particularly stupid but isn't really enforced.

Pretty nice from their part. You can't expect to cool a processor with a toy fan, and expect them to replace you CPU.

What about CPUs that sell without a cooler? Mine didn't come with one :p

Always thought that was a bit odd as my 65W 1600 came with a 95W AMD fan...

Using third-party thermal paste also voids warranty ? Using stealth stock cooler that comes with 2600 and used on 2700x voids warranty ?

Also using memory above 2933 voids warranty and same thing for core overclocking.
