I'm nonplussed about RT for the most part. It looks nice in control and Metro Exodus Enhanced. RTGI is the more compelling aspect to RT for me right now. DLSS has been important for me and has made things nicer having a smaller GPU (2070S) connected to large 4K TV for the last few years.

Wonder if there will be a big uptick in damage-control procedures over at TPU when all the geniuses start trying to flash a 6X50-series BIOS onto their existing RDNA2 card?

I would not call something trash that showed me the same game a different light. I've been playing or honestly replaying mostly singleplayer games and thats where it shines.

Control, Dying Light 2, Metro EE are transformed and a different experience.

Well that's the thing, it just looks different, not necesarily better imo - i personally like the look of vanilla metro exodus a whole lot more than the rt edition.

rt is not supposed to look better to be brutally frank
it's supposed to look more correct.

And that's why it's not gaining that much traction, cause the average gamer doesnt really care what is technically more correct looking - they care about what they find more visually appealing, and more importantly, what runs better. And of those 2 points, the first one is entirely subjective, while the latter is a massive loss for RT.

its not gaining traction because of the lack of hardware first and foremost.

With 40 series the GTX branding is history. That should give some traction to the RTX.

I dont think so - and for one simple reason.

What does the vast majority of gamers primarily play? Esports titles. What is by far the most important thing in esport titles? Performance. Does RT improve Performance? No, it severaly cripples it.

So in other words rt will only ever be relevant for singleplayer games, and thus irrelevant to the vast majority.

Many people are still enjoying singleplayer games and rt is playing a big part here. Nvidia pushing it so hard even to become part of esports but you are right performance is more important in those.

Lol, RT hating neo luddites on a tech forum.....

All joking aside, I hope for many more games with RT in the future :)

There are like 2 single-player games where it's properly implemented. Metro is one of those that I would actually love to try with RT. But overall the tech is a gimmick at this stage.
I'm not saying it's bad - RT/ path tracing or something similar in the future. The question is when will that future actually happen? I think we are in a similar stage to the early 2000s when 3dfx was a thing.
The amazing visual tech really enhanced the picture. Was it widely adopted? No. Why? Expensive and not every title could benefit from it.
Same thing now. Up until we will see widespread usage of this technology, implemented through engines and not eating up 80% of the performance for visual changes which in most cases are, let's be honest - minor.

Slap on top of it - not all games will benefit from RT. I can bet you 200% that there will be games that will use old-style graphics in the future as well due to their aesthetics and appeal. Not everyone will want their visuals to be realistic.

What would be more important is actual gameplay/physics enhancements.
Gaming from a graphical standpoint has made leaps in recent years, however, when it comes to physics and actual engine mechanics we are still stuck somewhere in the early 2000s.

Most of the games are very basic still. Hell, some games from the '90s have more impressive engine capabilities than modern stuff. I was replaying recently an old classic - Giants: Citizen Kabuto. That game has more in it than most of the modern "innovative" trash.

Why? Developers and tools. Most people and companies will go along the way of "easier is better".
Example - Unreal Engine/Unity which is making leaps and bounds, the flexibility they offer to the developers. CDPR with Cyberjunk has utterly failed mostly due to high ambition, rush, and constant need to develop and patch their own engine. And now they're switching to UE due to previously mentioned reasons.

I can't wait for the day when will all of the graphics lovers finally be satisfied with ultra super duper realistic graphics, while still having crap lazy gameplay. And then hopefully the big tech will start focusing on what actually matters - tools to develop gameplay mechanics/physics and realism.

Zoomer fail, I'm 31. Buy another RTX card, maybe then you will have enough RT cores to contemplate what I'm talking about.

If you have an option try it if you dont then enjoy the game without it. :)

I have and loved it. My friend has 3080 and when everything works in combination with DLSS it's lovely. But once again - IMO, right now, it's too little.

When RDNA2 was released one of the things we found out was that the L3 cache was connected to the vram. And that limited the OC capability of vram on these cards.
So the Infinity cache might have a higher clock speed on this refresh. That might help explain why the gains are so big in several games.

What's hilarious is that you think your response even remotely matters - other than for me to re-educate you because your responses are always entirely predictable.

I'm happy to tell you that I actually paid $2500 for this 6900XT, and it's been fun card to own for my first AMD card ever, in 40 years+ of my hobby. I have to say, that despite all the nay-sayers, I find AMD drivers much nicer than Nvida's offerings. I bought the card as a filler - a play thing, to throw away as soon as the next generation of cards arrives - assuming I can actually get a flagship model that won't be replaced with a better one 3 months later. That was always the intent - rather than buying a 3090 and being underwhelmed by it...

okay how is this post related to rt experience we were discussing
you like amd,and you'd pay 1500usd over msrp to not get nvidia.nice.I don't need to know that though.
re-educate me with what ? that 3090 is undewhelming but 6900xt at 2500 is great ?

Problem is in a lot of games released so far it doesn't. Too much reflection in a lot of them. Dirty objects are not supposed to reflect very well. Water on a road is not supposed to be a mirror. Windows often do not reflect at all. I have a window next to me and i don't see my reflection into it. Atm RT looks like the games released at the beginning of the century that looked like the whole world was coated with Vaseline (early shaders). Most devs are overusing them for the wow effect making things too much reflective. It will eventually pass and they will set the reflection to a more natural and realistic setting but for now it's turning me off.
