An EVGA 290X Classy would be awesome :nerd:
Sorry for the offtopic but, guys, check this out.
I wonder why they went with such a bad cooler and then don't allow their partners to sell cards with custom coolers.
Anyone know if Arctic Cooling has something for the 290X soon for those that don't want to go with liquid cooling?
What a pleasant surprise. I was getting all jaded thinking they would be dirtbags and price it way too high-- I'm glad I was wrong. Well done AMD!
I reckon december/january for the custom 290/290x... but they might be on small supply.
Here in Serbia it cost only 485€ at the moment, interesting is tha prices can go even lower.
I overclock regardless of the cooler. My GTX660SC was at +200mhz on the reference cooler. My 7950 is at 1ghz with a reference cooler. Sadly enough, my 7950 is using the exact same fan profile and doesn't get quite as hot as the 660SC did.....but is just as loud.
Lol, maybe at stock. But you have to consider that it only runs at 1000 at stock. At 1200 i'm pretty sure it's untouchable.
As a frequenter of the 780 thread as I like to torture myself I would like to see a max OC 780vsR9 290x. Considering reference boost clock on the 780 is 900Mhz a 1200Mhz face off would be nice.
I'm going to snag up a 2nd 7950 in the end I think, been offered one at a great price. unless someone talks me out of it.

You really want a 290x don't you. Or could you be ready to come to the dark side? LOL
7950 CF should be very impressive.
About to get a Sapphire Dual-X from ebay for £135, can't resist, plus if we don't see custom 290/x until dec/jan, I might as well just keep 7950 CF and I can sell both cards and get a 290x if I don't like CF.
I like that guy, used to watch his reviews ages ago, forgot about him since then.
He brings up some really good points.
Nice card, nonetheless, but the cooler (temps and loudness) is just horrible...
I personally don't care about the looks, but not being able to OC properly because cooler is crap would be a huge thing for me... (TTL said that he was strugling with stability with only +70 MHz OC with fan @100%..... like WTH?...) Only way i see this: don't buy reference 290x, unless you gonna put water block on it. Hopefully after-market coolers will drop temps quite badly.
After seeing TTL's review, and showing how temps just DON'T drop, having a 60-70C+ card running for 10+ min might even increase the overall temps in the case, which is a no-go for me...
Pricing, on the other hand is AWESOME for the performance it provides. Hopefully that'll drop the prices on the green side aswell and next-gen won't be as expensive as Kepler was.
All in all, good performance, but the cooler is just horrible. Looks like they copied the design for it off a GTX 480.....
ha ha dont get me started on the 480, my reference 480 at stock ran 15c hotter than a reference 580 clocked at 900/4400
