The people i refer to are the various posters i've came across talking about it on this site and others, and the obvious doctored AMD slides showing totally different numbers to actual performance figures. Speaks for itself. What i expect is more than a 20% improvement over the competitions flagship card, expecially given that it's a new architecture and a new generation. The increase is not satisfactory for a jump in generation. The might as well have just released the 6995. Either way, drivers won't do that much to improve performance, they never have other than in synthetic benchmarks like 3DMark. I don't give a damn about power consumption. I want raw performance. If AMD can no longer provide that, then i'll go back to nVidia if they release a suitable card.
Wish I had that sort of patience, I upgrade when I get bored lol. I never get the top GPU though, never very good value, thought this might of changed with this card, but wasn’t expecting AMD to price it like Nvidia.
I barely even notice that kind of difference... Not worth it to upgrade for anyone with GTX 580 (or overclocked 570).
Nice card not enough grunt to get two of these to replace my year old 580s. When the fukc is Maxwell coming out since highend Kepler is months away or even a year.
Good card but some things to point out. Look at the minimum fps, it's only a couple of frames above the gtx 580, a tech from 2009/2010, who cares for average fps, min fps is more important. Why Are people impressed it beats a 2 year old gpu tech only by a small margin. The price is wayyyy to high. Should be at $399 IMO.
GTX 580 SLi overckloked Gpu: 980Mhz mem 4300: 14.060p AMD 7970 Crosfire Overckloked Gpu 1100Mhz mem 5700: 14470p http://3dmark.com/3dm11/2395414
If you look at pricing the 7970 is cheaper then a 3GB 580. Nvidia is always over pricing their top stuff looks like I'm going back to AMD when I can actually buy the cards.
this...gtx 580 1.5<hd7970<580 3gb (pricing) but...gtx 580 1.5<gtx 580 3gb<hd 7970 (performance) so everybody should stop the BS about expensive card...:bang:uke2: 7970 cost as much as it should be like the fastest single gpu on the market...
well i missed a important thing in this review... THE AF QUALITY..since AMD messed it up since 5 series...Why is noone reviewing the quality settings..Nvidia is still way ahead of amd in that terme.. here is some Quote from an german review about the AF filtering...in HQ mode, Nvidia still is King.. quote from CB: i hope its translated well... U can read teh Rest of this very interesting article herE: And here u can get Videos from the NV 5 series, AMD 7 and AMD 6 series...where u can see the filtering quality... -BetA-
The 3GB GTX580 is also way too high, two wrongs don't make a right. From a business point of view the 7970 is priced correctly, but from a consumer point of view it is too expensive and if both AMD and Nvidia are overpricing things, then it wont end well for us. I can't see AMD fans who are used to cheaper cards going for this, and i don't see Nvidia fans being tempted away and losing certain Nvidia specific features if they aren't saving any money.
If anything AMD has a better AF filter due to it being angle-independent and Nvidia the better AA due to their SSAA support in DX10+ titles.
Not really impressed TBH, considering it's taken so long for AMD to get back in the lead it's not by much (or enough), i was expecting a much bigger jump in performance. I'll be sticking with my 480 overclocked to be a 580 until the new nvidia cards come out.
lol,,chillin u wont see any diff when looking at a still standing picture...load the videos in my links i supportet...there u see clearly how bad AMD´s AF is really...i wonder why no other site really talks about that... its a really important thing...
lol at that overclocked thinking...it's the classic non-sence of hope...... a high oc'ed amd 7970 would be a 780 so you are pwned again by far
that's true...amd's quality is pathetic...think that kepler will even bring newer quality options not only the double performance by previous generation... i am worried about amd's future...after faildozer failadeon is out...:wanker:
Actully a 480 overclocked to 835/4000 has the same performance as a default 580 (along with ram amount, bandwidth etc). As for the 2nd bit, that has no bearing on anything i stated, i'm not upgrading because the performance i already have is decent and the difference the 7970 has isn't enough IMO for the cost outlay (my card cost £185 new).
Honestly? Download this video that compares the AF of the 7970, 6970 and GTX 580: http://images.anandtech.com/reviews/video/amd/7970/R7970AF.zip Or watch a lower quality on Youtube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6SM41gVg_y8
well. i trust those here more: http://www.computerbase.de/downloads/system/grafikkarten/af-videos-zu-gcn/ and there i can see a diff....
