I never said it was
WHY ARE YOU SAYING POLARIS IS WORSE THAN PASCAL
GCN numbering is not that important. Anyone who saw GCN improvement map even once knows that there are many improvements in works and their release are bound to happen at different times.
And in many cases, released technology is improved again and again.
But, none the less, I like to mark GCN GPUs as members of particular generations due to certain big improvements which may not be felt at moment they are done.
Like Improved ACUs or that Tonga's IMC.
stop your denial :nerd:
ofc polaris is an architecture. alone the changes in ARCHITECTURE of the chip
layout make it a standalone architecture.
GCN 1.1 (2.0) (2nd gen)
GCN 1.2 (3.0) (3rd gen) (call it windows 9 if you want)
are ARE different architectures already.
"AMD Reveals Polaris GPU Architecture"
They worded it badly, the architecture is 4th gen GCN
Polaris is an implementation for entry-level and mid-range tiers
So you think Tonga and Fiji are different architectures ?
You must be an expert.
I saw a table showing all the changes to Polaris function blocks vs Fiji/Tonga and that's the best indicator of changes really. They have version numbers for each subcomponent of the GPU, damned if I can word it in a way that'll bring up correct results on google though
No, GCN is architecture. Tonga and Fiji are different revision. While in general people classify both into GCN 1.2 (3.0), Fiji may have different improvements or miss something what AMD no longer deemed important.
They are both GCN 1.2 so no. Do your homework again.
have fun getting a vandalism ban for trying changing the wiki lol...
That's what we just said. GCN is the architecture, Polaris , Vega, Tonga, Fiji indicate actual GPUs
That's what I just said. They're the same architecture. GCN 1.2; Tonga and Fiji.
Similarly Polaris and Vega are the same arch. How are you obtuse to the point that you get mixed up and argue against what you said a few posts ago
Lol.. come on
Yes but GCN 1.2 is another architecture than GCN 1.3 and GCN 1.1 for example.
Wow. So its not bad wording. It's CORRECT to speak of a new architecture.. when it comes to 1.3
THAT'S WHAT I ****ING SAID.
People who argue just for the sake of arguing, without even knowing what they're arguing about, who completely change the premise of the argument and put words in your mouth whenever it's convenient to them.
"Come on" what?
Nothing more to say now?
GCN is the architecture, Polaris is the code name for a subset of GCN chips. That's literally what he and I said... This isn't difficult.
No, when you link to a site and take a screenshot so he doesn't "vandalize" it, despite the fact that it proves his point, there is nothing left to say.
It clearly states "Architecture GCN 1.x" down the list. GCN is the architecture. Polaris/Fiji/Etc are codenames for subsets of GCN chips. This isn't rocket science.
You claimed polaris is a standalone architecture. We said you're wrong.
You are wrong. Polaris is GCN 1.3
Polaris DOES NOT denote an architecture, rather a GPU
official amd radeon group powerpoint

ahhhhh..... much better...
Well that's simply a misnomer. Polaris implements the new architecture, I guess AMD dumb-down their slideshows so people like you can follow
The same way nvidia can say
I mean yeah, there has been 4 generations of GCN chips.
1.0 1.1, 1.2 and 1.3. It's right on the wiki.
No one is disputing that.
I hate taxes.
