In cash, I certainly wouldn't think so. But they might do a cash amount and shares, which isn't a bad idea

such deals are generally never in cash (unless for strategic reasons). Given AMD's position, a huge part of the 30 billion bill will be in shares of AMD.

Interesting development nonetheless, for a company to go from brink of bankruptcy to this.

They can also borrow a big chunk of the money. I'm sure they wouldn't have a problem getting a loan after their growth over the past few years.

No, but IIRC, they did just recently pay off all their debts. Now that they're in the black, I think they're willing to invest in other markets to maximize profit. If they're smart with Xilinx, that could be very profitable.

AMD has interestingly really loved to keep their long-term debt around 3 billion dollars. But I guess there's no inherent purpose in that. At the end of the day, especially Intel but also Nvidia have been buying various promising businesses left and right of late. Who knows, maybe AMD would have liked to do the same if they had had the dough. It'd be kind of dangerous for AMD if they can't even license technology anymore because Intel and Nvidia own all of it. Of course if AMD had a really good nose, they might be able to buy good stuff for cheap when it hasn't yet really proven itself and grown large, but somehow I don't think AMD really has got that ability. I mean, they were going all gung-ho about DirectX12 like stuff years before it had any meaning, they used HBM in gaming cards and still got beaten by Nvidia, their 1.5 core CPU tech didn't attracted people like Intel's hyperthreading, etc.

No "end of the world we are doomed" like in a topic here where it was said that Nvidia will purchase ARM??? - I remember the crying, the revolt...
Oh, I forgot, AMD are the good guys.

Nvidia taking over the ONLY supplier of a particular product.
AMD taking over ONE of possible suppliers of a particular product (there's at least 5 more not counting Altera).

    Totally the same thing. /s

nVidia paid $12B in cash to Softbank for ARM; the rest in nVidia stock...;) As mentioned in the thread, such deals are never leveraged all in cash... This would move AMD up the scale and make it even tougher for Intel to catch up, imo.

Nvidia is greed trash. They do everything they can to be anti competition while being anti consumer.
AMD really is the good guys in comparison

All we gotta do is talk about gameworks, not even Physx or geforce experience.

Bad idea amd, the last time you took over a fab it drained your profits and sent you into oblivion.

Funny thing th CEO of Xylynx is of taiwanese origin Victor Peng and Lisa Su too.
Jen-Hsun Huang the CEO of Nvidia is tawainese too and is the uncle of Lisa Su.
I think these Taiwan engineers who became CEOs are all buddies or family members and are like a small conglomerate of firms who make deals.
The fact that Taiwan has so many engineers operating big semi-conductor companies tells me where the future is and it is South East Asia!
I dare to say if the chinese communist party disappears, the chinese nationalists who fled to Taiwan in the 1940s will make continental China like Taiwan!
The future of humanity seems to be in Asia!

As much as i don't care that nvidia is buying ARM, so keep that in mind when i say what i am about to say:

How is it even remotely possible you could think of this as even being remotely the same situation?

Again, remember, i don't care that nvidia is buying arm, i'm not saying what i said because "oh i am just against nvidia buying arm", i'm not, i don't care.
