Ready to get off this Gaming Edge wifi x570 board with chocolate VRMs and PGA mounting BS. Squeaky bum time when taking off cooler to repaste. LGA no problems.

New board, new CPU. New GPU can wait till next year or whatever I'm set.

me too. i updated to a x570s mobo last year and i bought an rx6900xt in spring (tho' i could've saved $150 if i bought it now).

i could skip this entire generation but i won't because....ya'know... geek

The Gaming Edge wifi is, possibly, the biggest purchasing mistake I've made. It runs fine with the lower TDP parts but nicer things are not possible, and PGA... I made a pigs ear of mounting the D14 on my 5600 so need to take that off and do better (temps are not acceptable for big HSF). Not looking forward to that.

Two months and a bit ? That is really close !

Can't wait to see what these are capable of... although it won't be a buy from me for sure, already upgraded to Zen3, that's going to last me a few more years.
Put perhaps 2nd gen AM5, the one after this, sure, why not ?

as much as hardcore noctua guys may claim different...
    1) they have the best mounting system for an air cooler
    2) it is really a two person job unless you have a workbench with a rotating clamp.

and you may have discovered...gloves are a good idea

MSI was my go-to mobo in my HEDT rigs (since replaced w/5950x) but their less expensive boards have gone full Gigabyte of 5-10 years ago (PCB changing thickness, amount of copper in traces reduced, still charging too much for wifi). their high end boards are still great, but yeah, they're high end.

this is an area where i usually recommend Asus TUF as a value (getting the most board for the money)
but a lot of TUF boards may not tickle your fancy as some are dowdy. but Gigabyte has gotten much better to the point they have the best ITX x570(s) mobo under $300

Gloves I found out about too late. Fingerprints stained the nice Noctua, and my efforts to clean it just made things worse. However I just ordered a D15S to replace the very old and beat up D14. This was the original model without PWM fans, so it has been running at a very low RPM with a low noise adapter.

This time, gloves, patience, and hopefully no bent CPU pins.

    5.5ghz in 0.1s?
Give me 5.5ghz all core, and we are talking ;)

I'm not that excited because I doubt any 7 series cpu will beat my AL 5.4ghz all core with 7000c30 with many %, if at all in many games. May be fun for playing Cinebench :p

I will buy it anyway, just for overclocking the hell out of it :D

This is the end of "Intel best gaming cpu era" for a long time....
    Ryzen 7 7800X3D 5.5Ghz 5nm + DDR5 6400... please.... take my money!
And just to not forget... Intel is DEAD!

    don't worry
you will have almost year of almost the same gaming performance (DDR5 makes up a huge part of the difference) before AMD releases Raphael 3D and you can still say you have the best gaming CPU.
and just for shits and giggles Intel Meteor Lake will be out about the same time. here the over-arching factor will be the 3D cache, but it will be the 1st Intel to sweat your 5800X3D.
lots of fun & games between now and next fall.

in the meantime think about saving for that next gen GPU if you already don't have one. right now is the best GPU market in over three years.
if you do already have a next gen GPU you're set until you get the itch

then unlike most of us you don't need to care for a couple of years

no but am5 will be supported for a few years, including zen5 and zen5x3d, maybe more.
