I know what the thread's title is...

What I'm asking (in order to actually learn) is why?

Is Win7 so different compared to Win8.1 that the driver probably won't work?

    TY, again.

So can we assume that AMD is and was not being truthful with us concerning VSR and FPS Limiter in HD 7000 cards?

Nah it was the truth, just misunderstood. Amd meant "not yet done", while what a lot of people understood is "impossible"

    Source?

It's been widely spread now by AMD representatives that not only was VSR implementation on the HD7000 impossible due to hardware limitations (re: scaler), but they have no intention of bringing a solution to that series and are investigating solutions for 280/x, etc.

There was some slight ambiguity with regards to whether or not AMD was even discussing software solutions...until mention of the 280/x support, that is. So there goes that idea.

just yesterday i posted a thread to AMDMatt asking about driver restrictions, and the amd gurus with pitch and forks defended that its because ''HARDWARE'' limitations that my 7950 could not provide VSR.

I am sorry AMD but if you are trying to sell me re bagged hardware with new ''features'' that are purely driver restrictions, is no better than any Draconian DRM. with that said, i will look into your competitor for further upgrades, and hope many other do so.

in other words, your business practices suck AMD.

here is a tip on doing smart business: enable it for every card.
And now your clients that have lower end video cards like mine, would justify to get a more powerful card for this feature to work ''BUT'' with higher framerates, and hence you would have more people upgrading their cards.

Here is another tip based on how YOU do business:
HOW ABOUT you just sell VSR like a DLC for your driver for the r 7xxx crowd. We can love you even more. pfft. Make Driver seasons passes too, so the privileged have INSTANT DAY ONE beta drivers! See AMD i can think at your level too.

Nah, no source, just logic - they present VSR working only on few cards and say due to hardware scaler, then mention "part 2" of the omega drivers. Well considering that software VSR is working fine for an year in terms of GeDoSaTo for example, using shaders, it gets clear, that supporting other cards is just a matter of time and yet here it is. There are probably few % difference in performance between the hardware scaler and the software implementation, but that's not that much.

    Sounds like "impossible" to me.

Alternative methods is clearly software scaling - okay, but "will not arrive on the 7xxx series" is a lie, software scaler will work on pretty much everything, so shame on AMDMatt for this one :)

You know AMDMatt confirmed that VSR wasn't coming to the 7000 series?

Call this "VSR lite", and AMD can save face. :)

Well AMD either forgot to "patch" it for earlier cards or changed their mind. We'll see what AMDMatt has to say.

In the meantime I'm enjoying using VSR :)

I don't know why the FPS limiter should be limited for any hardware. They have even hinted it would be great for laptops, and that even means mobility chips. And no, there is no hardware limit for the FPS limiter to function. If there is, it's pure marketing bs this time.

AMD meant very specifically "probably yes" for R9 280/x, and "definitely no" for the 7000 series. As far as I can understand from the VSR mod thread, the feature even works for 6000 series cards. Yay for honesty AMD.

The denial from users that have nothing to lose in case the features go in, is really troubling at points. :infinity:

I am on R9 280x, and confirm that VSR works

Unfortunately, I do not see the framerate limiter option in CCC :(

Chances are that they just haven't had the time yet to "automate" this function from a pure amd kernel level so they still keep the dword around in this engineering sample.

I would't be surprised if it stopped working with the next big WHQL release.

    /theory.

I am very grateful for these OP!

    Finlay got VSR! :)

also, it is interesting to see how limitations on 7 series suddenly disappeared :) Good for you 79xx owners, no need to go out and buy rebranded versions.

Guys guys! I couldn't make the mod for VSR to run from the other thread, and I really needed both the VSR and the 15.3.1 driver.
So what I did was this:

    1) I cleanly installed the 15.2 drivers, and exported the registry settings they apply.

    2) I enabled VSR and exported the settings again.

    3) Using Notepad++ and the compare plugin, I isolated the registry entries where the changes were since applying VSR. Here they are below:

    Code:
    Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Video\{AE710DC2-D139-4C02-88CA-F2989EB5802A}\0000\DAL2_DATA__2_0\DisplayPath_7\Option]
    "All_nodes"=hex:42,65,73,74,56,69,65,77,4f,70,74,69,6f,6e,00
    "BestViewOption"=hex:00,00,00,00,00,00,00,00,03,00,00,00,01,00,00,00,08,00,00,\

      00,02,00,00,00,96,00,00,00
    5) I uninstalled 15.2, cleaned them with DDU, and installed the 15.3.1 drivers.

    6) Using CCC I found the registry path of the driver, and simply replaced the keys in the registry file using CTRL-H
    [IMG]

    7) Run the registry file and restarted.

The option for VSR is not there, but VSR still works :D
    [IMG]

Now I have both the new driver, and VSR

Keep in mind that these settings are for my GPU/CABLE/MONITOR combo. You need to do the same for yours, I simply highlighted the method and the registry keys that change.
Your exact values are going to be different.
