    But HD 4890>>HD 6670 :D

Which card would you grab? The big, badass monster or the tiny insect?

    Huh?

I would get the HD6670 (less power) since the HD 4890 requires a good power supply to run efficiently. My 210 watts is just simply not enough, even for the the HD6670.

Is there any particular reason why you can't just upgrade your PSU? I have a $10 585W PSU that works fine (but really, cheap PSU's aren't recommended :p)

    on my 4870x2 (windows 8 x64)

-Clocks stuck at 3d. (There are so many drivers that have this (vista, win7 , and now on win8)
-CCC not properly loaded on windows 8. (gamma works only after ccc is manually started)
-memory leak every time you open ccc it increases.
    -profiles missing.
-overclocking (ccc) not working. (may have to do with 3d clock bug, since only one gpu is changing)
-.net 4.0 broadcast event crash every time i shutdown windows 8. (unless i untick ccc from msconfig).

All these bugs were comfirmed by other people aswell.

Im not expecting AMD to fix these issues tbh. i have lost all faith in them when it comes to this. (since some bugs have been there for years).

I'm curious. What does AMD say when someone sends a ticket listing bugs on legacy cards (especially crossfire setups)? What is their answer? :)

No feedback. They just disappear into a black hole...

I am currently using a small atx case, so there is no room for a power supply. Therefore when upgrading to a GPU that requires more power I would also have to buy a new case and also power supply. BTW, may also need a new motherboard because my current motherboard cannot hold the graphic in place (the clip that holds the GPU to the board is broken).

They don't answer. The feedback form doesn't even have an option to give an email address... How can they?

    Hi

Feedback dose include a box for e-mail address if you are willing to be contacted by AMD; saying that, after submitting numerous reports to AMD they have not contacted me via e-mail for further information or updates on any fixes for the catalyst drivers

    this thread is lulz

5770 ~ 4870 ~little slower than 570m when we take dx11 out of the picture, so... performance case closed there

as mentioned we just want the glaring bugs (that used to be fine on older sets) get fixed, not performance (other than the CF updates that cant be done in a CAP)

personally, legacy isnt that big of a deal to me, the dx11 cards really are different architecturally, & by that i mean at the driver+OS level

    dx8 was dropped before, dx9 dropped, dx10, it's not a surprise

nvidia dropped their dx9 at the end of last year as well

the new GCN updates look exciting... at first i was hoping to move up to ~1.2ghz 7970 performance, which meant i was going to have to OC or wait for 8 series/~gtx770, but now maybe a cheap 7970 will do

why care about clocks when you can just run a dx9 app on startup, kev made his little app & it's just fine unless you sit on the login screen http://forums.guru3d.com/showthread.php?p=4383863#post4383863

profiles missing in CCC under the CF settings? i got you covered as well, maybe i should have written a post about this:

-whenever you install a new CAP, go to C:\Program Files (x86)\ATI Technologies\Application Profiles\, copy atiapfxx.blb, paste into C:\Windows\System32\ & C:\Windows\SysWOW64\, profit (CCC by default is reading the .blb that came with the driver which sits in the system folders)

i dont need perfect drivers, the only thing frustrating is when i cant make a workaround or if the performance just isnt there so my hardware's age is showing... i'm actually seeing a lot of cpu limited moments in hawken for example

speaking of hawken, http://www.kn00tcn.net/site/improving-hawken-crossfire-vsync-performance/ boom bam, using the .blb fix from above, i tell hawken's game exe to load the hawken driver profile (which contains the wrong exe name), now i get working CF as the drivers intended

i have more important problems with my 4870x2 now, the fan has been whining for almost a week

planetside2 with its driver dll changes concerns me, but modern card people saying 35% scaling? i forced AFR & see 90% scaling, i dont mind little flickers that arent constant, do the same for tribes

    :infinity:

btw, people should use the shorter feedback urls

    WHQL driver: http://www.amd.com/report
    Legacy driver: http://www.amd.com/legacyreport
    Beta driver: http://www.amd.com/betareport (disabled)
Mobility driver: http://www.amd.com/mobilityreport (not used anymore?)

Yes that's right, your always running with a cap whether you want it or not that is one step behind the profiles, and then the caps are rolled into the .blb file for the next release.

But still doesn't explain why profiles such as Mass effect 3 or Diablo III go missing in the list after installing any cap after the 12.9 CAP 1, whereas installing previous caps isn't an issue in that regard.

Btw, Kn00tcn, about the Unreal DK sparkling black spots editor bug on 11.2+ on your website...

I d/l the latest version of UDK (all multiple gigs of it) and couldn't reproduce the sparkling spot's issue on 11.12's & 4870x2. So either the UDK has been updated since you found the bug or it's been fixed.

Just thought I would let you know that I checked that one out on my travels... :)

I try to work around klugeing some of the outstanding bugs on my little notepad "list", but sometimes with nothing new to play with it's a dead end...

The advantage is of course having access to far more drivers to play around with than a 7970 user has when encountering a problem, even if there isn't a or never will be a perfect driver...

well something changed in 12.9 caps which caused CCC to probably fail at loading it properly... even though putting the new .blb file in the system folders gets read fine

wait which CAP first had the bug.. isnt it 12.10? cuz that's when the version number changed to 12 instead of 9 (dont tell me they hardcoded the numbers or something stupid... remember how right before we had the 10.x catalysts, they put an extra 0 in CCC for a couple months?)

what version of UDK? maybe i should try a newer one.. currently i have a blank 2012-11 one that doesnt contain any content & 2011-06 that contains foliagemap, i put the 11.12 atiumdag in & still got the sparkles, suppose it's quite possible that epic fixed it internally

Been having issues running BF3 on anything past 12.8. I seem to get very erratic FPS, suddenly dropping to 30ish and then going back up to 120+. I would stick with 12.8, but I play a lot of other games that have got performance fixes in the newer versions. Anyone have similar issues? Perhaps I could set up a custom profile for it, but I'm not sure what to change.

Running on Crossfire 6970s by the way.

    now, this depends

    6670 1gb(or higher ram) thats ddr5

if its the 6670 ddr3 I would take the 4890 any day over it for gaming.

try using radeon pro, I found that forcing framerate to vsync, and forcing triplebuffer (or triplebuffer+double vsync) can make some games ALOT smoother, even at 30fps constant some shooters are more playable then when its droping to 30 but spiking at over 120....
