I am in 11.8 after many tests, and not moving from there
best performance for gaming by far , and stability
perhaps, *if* I move to W8, that likely is not gonna happen , Id install this ones
The simple fact that ppl have AMD drivers for 4x,3x,2x series for W8 is good enough

The coolest thing about nvidia is that you don't have to squeeze your patience to get a driver for an old product. I installed a nvidia 7025 in a friend's computer with the latest driver package and it works like a charm.

The bad thing about nvidia is the product range (at least in my country). It's almost impossible to find a low end product with a good price/performance ratio. In that way, AMD is better. I mostly play CS/CSS/CS-GO so I don't need a beefy gpu. My current one is 4 years old.

    What's your logic behind this?

Just for performance reference, NOT feature set:
    http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/gaming-graphics-card-review,3107-7.html

Again, i'm really trying to understand how this logically can make sense.

I could go on, but here's the thing. I think no legacy owner in their right minds should be looking for performance improvements in a new driver. We just want the bugs pressed out, too many outstanding issues.

Clock bugs, Flash/DXVA etc. are all driver related, has nothing to do with the implementation of new code. It's an issue that has been fixed, broke, fixed and broken again. New code implementation can't do that.

Just look at the Hierarchy chart, tells you a lot about the performance of these cards.

Take a look at Guru3D AMD forums, it's gotten really messy as of late.
And for good reason too, a lot of folks have been trying their hand at driver fixes and optimizations, some good, some bad but we are seriously grateful for it.

So thanks kevsamiga1974 for pointing out the driver file versions, it's good to know that very little has changed when it comes to driver fixes and CAP profiles that actually don't do a thing for legacy crossfire users.

    Legacy Driver

I don’t know why you are fighting about this, ATI/AMD lost me as a customer, and I will never buy, nor recommend them to anyone. Their stock dropped 59% overall in 2012 (wonder if that might be because of the way they treated their customer base); they have reduced their wafer purchases for 2013 (so that means less GPU’s, CPU’s, and Chips produced). They basically abandon all of us with 4000 and below series cards. I have been replacing my systems with Nvidia Cards and have recommended to my customers and friends to do the same. The only system that I have left with an ATI/AMD anything in it is my Alienware Laptop (dual 4870HD Video cards), and I will be replacing it this year, with a system that has Nvidia Cards. Heck Nvidia still supports their 200 series cards, ATI/AMD abandon us.

So my recommendation is don’t fight about it, because ATI/AMD does not care and are not listening to you, boycott their products don’t buy anything connected to ATI/AMD, no CPU’s, No GPU’s, no Chips, don’t buy anything they produce, show them how happy you are to be abandon, let them know what legacy feels like.

The newest AMD cards have horrible issues. I guess we (old cards users) can't get fixes until the flickering (and some other game-breaking bugs, read the stickies) on GCN gpus is solved for the 99.99% of people.

If AMD pulls off a super-awesome-stable driver for almost everyone with a high end HD 7000 radeon, I think they will pay more attention to us.

One more thing, I know AMD didn't keep it's word but we have to wait :(

"These updates will focus on resolving application specific issues and critical updates"

    hmm...

No you don't. It's drivers fault because they're ported from windows 7.

And if you had a clue you would know that's all to do with the CPU side of AMD.
And the rest of your post is just rant.

Anyone can pick any issue of AMD or NV that they had personally and apply it as a reason to tell everyone else not the buy there product as if your personal experience is all that matters to everyone else and everyone should base everything on you.

A person who lacks objectivity when it comes to others needs is the last person people should go to advice for.

Firstly, you don't need DX11 exclusively for any game out there, Secondly DX11 is backwards compatible to 10.1, Thirdly, a quadfired 4870x2 is equivelent performance wise to crossfired 6970's or crossfire'd 7850's, based on toms graphic card hierarchy chart.

    http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/gaming-graphics-card-review,3107-7.html

Take a look, where you can clearly see the "ancient" 4870x2 in tier 5. Hardly surprising really because of 2.4 teraflops of shader grunt.

So what games "exactly" is the 4870x2 in the closet not cutting it anymore with? The point is that even if you only get 15fps in modern game with a single 4870, with quadfire and perfect scaling and a bit of luck your going to get 60fps right...

And the flash issues have nothing to do with what you said, because the old code was busted in DXVA playback just the same.

That's because they aint as nearly anywhere near as full of bugs and glitches and flaky flashing texture corruption in games, but let's see what was added for their abandoned jamboree of cards.. adaptive v-sync, updated SLI profiles (in the drivers) so cards like a GTX 295 will benefit still even past their prime...

ummm , there is not a single game i cannot run with my config,
and many many modern games I just need a single 4870
don't get me wrong , new generations have improvements,
but this point on time, I still game o.k. with my setup
there is no need for more
still, like i said, its good to know there are official AMD drivers for legacy
    for ppl on win7/8

    objectivity

Talk about objectivity, only after you have looked in the mirror and then rolled your eyes.

What I said stands, I will not recommend their products, there stock dropped 59% in 2012, they cancel more than 25% of 2013 wafer purchase (what are CPU's GPU's and Chips made from) and they are the one that said Legacy would get updates at the 12.9 and 13 ver and now we have 12.6 and 12.6 dressed to look like 13.1 or is 13.1 cover over 12.6? you decide

1)There stocked dropped before the 2013 wafer purchase and right after Bulldozer.

    2) Nothing to do with me looking in the mirror because i recommend both brands of cards depending on the users needs and not wholly on my experience or dislike for a brand.

    3) Most enthusiasts don't hold on to Gpus long enough for legacy to become an issue, so yes the objectivity issue is all yours.

People don't throw computers away. No matter how old or worthless for modern tasks.

It's known as the "Amstrad in the attic syndrome"

I'm still rocking a 3DFx Voodoo 2, just for when I get the insane urge to play Glide games.

I don't think people would complain nearly as much, if they didn't keep leaving the generations of cards behind with stupidly obvious bugs, and doing the same rinse cycle repeat formula on drivers, where bugs that get fixed come back to haunt you again in later drivers. So things are not fixed permanently, only for a short while depending on which way the wind is blowing.

eg, how long has the h/w cursor corruption issue been floating around coming and going over the years, look at the other threads with *modern* cards and *modern* drivers and *modern* operating systems all having all the same old repeating problems as days gone by on older OS, older cards, and older drivers.

How difficult is it to make sure your own hardware cursor works properly across all generations all of the time, and if you fix it make sure it stays fixed, what are the testers smoking ?

Very few people actualy complain and i still have my 3DFx Voodoo 2 AND CRT ViewSonic, but i accept what they are.

Agreed, most people accept what it is. Old tech and don't start posting madly on forums because their old hardware is no longer being supported.

Then kindly :), not madly release the drivers as open source if you plan no more than token updates, and let the community maintain and do a proper job where things aren't broke, if it's now "unsupported" that is...

This includes the entire Linux and AmigaOS communities relying on these "old" cards working on the task as well. :smoke:

The HD 4800 series at least are still viable for games today, so why say they should be unsupported just because they are old?

AMD said that legacy only would get bug fixes though, so I don't get why others seem to have awaited something more.
