AMD Catalyst 11.8 WHQL (8.881 July 28) - Download & Discussion

It happens when i have a browser running or when running accelerated video content. I have newer seen 3d clocks stay after exiting game with these drivers.

Is there any particular game you have seen this?

Just to clarify: I don't have it stay at 400Mhz after i close the browser, so it's not a bug-
. It's only browsers have begun to take advantage of the gpu processing power.

 

Where as yet again I have never had a problem with any of those drivers. I think it may be your system.

But then again it usually is.

 

DirectX11 is still broken in Crysis 2 with these drivers. With High Res textures and everything on Ultra I get 60 fps with DirectX11 switched off. With standard textures advanced graphics set to High and DirectX11 switched on, it's unplayable. I don't think this is ever going to be fixed by Crytek or ATI so I’m just going to finish the game without DirectX11, still looks great anyway.

 

Played BFBC2 Vietnam....got a random freeze within 5 minutes that required a system restart to recover.

Upon second try to play BC2:V, I encountered the white screen of death.

Back to 11.7WHQL and all is well.

 

But...

But ONLY with these drivers? I use all the drivers before this. Never freeze the system. When I return to 11.6 or 11.7, the system worked perfectly. For me, the problem is the new 11.8.

Yet again, again. I play this game alot and have no issues and no crashes.

 

Nope I have used nearly ever official and beta driver for as long as I have had an ATI card (5 years or so). No problems apart from a few crossfire problems and the mouse cursor problem in the right corner (now gone)

Maybe this is a cfx and certain combination of harware.

 

Sometimes I wonder if Nvidia pays people to create random accounts on forums and trash the AMD drivers creating fake stories etc. Sure seems like it.

 

I'm having issues with Win7-64 11-8 drivers and my 5970. Random screen flickers and crashes. Reverting back to older drivers seemed to fix it. Wierd.

 

If you are a chronic ATI fanboy and not believe, I'm sorry, but I use ATI since Radeon 9800 Pro, and I say: depending on the combination of hardware, the computer freezes with Catalyst 11.8.

 

had my first freeze in dirt2 ever , fresh install of windows7 x64 and fully updated .
tbh i wish i had paid a little more and got a gtx580 instead of my second 6970 , problem is it might not be a 6970 lol

 

Perceptive. Yes I believe you are among the random whiners just promote the perception that AMD drivers are bad.

 

Under what circumstance do you experience this?

 

Not happy with a 6970 CF? Prefer a single GTX 580 instead of what you have?
These crazy, CF 6970 besides that works properly and is much more powerful than a single GTX 580.

my second (silent) computer got a 4870x2 and i have to report quite a bunch of freeze aswell since 11.7, it got a little better with 11.8 but still got a couple since i updated.

i'm not a fanboy of any brand, i owned both red and green cards for years, got both a crossfire of ati and a 3way sli of nvidia so i think i'm more of an enthousiast.

but even if it got much better each passing years, ati drivers team is still way behind Nvidia when it come to bug fix and day 1 support for new games.

if you're mostly using ati for movie/internet it may not be as troublesome, but if you'd put your last penny in a I7/6990 only to not being able to play a new game before 3 months, there's reason to go ape.

add a couple very annoying problem like cursor flickering/slowdown, freeze, 6 months old fix for games who get removed for no reason, ...

now add insult to injury with the fact Nvidia is paying develloper to optimize their game for green hardware (crysis 2 is only the last of a long list)...

and i think you can understand ati constumer are between the anvil and the hammer here.

 

I think a bad PSU or underpowered PSU is to blame for many of peoples problems...
