So at the AMD Capsaicin Event there has been a lot of talk about anything Threadripper, which I am sure you just read all about in our preview. X399 however was on display, quite a lot of them.... AMD Capsaicin Event - X399 Motherboards
Ugh what a boring sea of black and gray. It'd be nice for some variety. I miss the mid 2000s, where blue, red, green, yellow, black, white, and even purple PCBs could be found on motherboards. Not only that but back then there were major differences between each board. These X399 boards don't just look the same but seem function the same with some small differences here and there, like which audio chipset is used. At this point it seems the only board worth buying is the one that has the lowest price, because TR isn't going to OC high (where VRM quality hardly matters) and most of the features are from X399 itself and not 3rd party addons.
Asus x399 ROG Zenith eXtreme and the MSI Pro Carbon AC x399 are the best looking boards while the Gigabyte Auros and Asrock Fatality are not that good looking , based on my personal taste and opinion of course. Now let's wait for Hilbert reviews to see which one is the top dog , i bet the Asus ROG x399 Zenith eXtreme will take the crown . Look at all those M.2 NVMe slots thanks to the massive 64 pcie 3.0 lanes ... hardware porn indeed !
Good choice my friend , looking forward to your new TR build and please post lots of pictures and bench numbers
That Threadripped 1950x and Asus Zenith Extreme will be mine. Worst case scenario if the Zenith if sold out I'll go for th MSI or Auros but I won't dare touch Asrock boards.
