And it seems they didn't skimp on the Crossfire-X either. Very surprising, and a job well done by AMD

BFBC2 is always faster on AMD cards though, Nvidia still haven't optimized the bloody drivers for this game, plus the 6870 is likely to be more expensive than the GTX470 so i should think so lol.

After reading the review, it appears we have the exact same performance comparison from 48xx--->57xx as for the new 58xx--->68xx.

It appears an overclocked 6870 will outperform a 5870. Sounds familiar as a heavily overclocked 5770 can beat a 4870.

Hopefully the 69xx cards will be significantly faster.

i think 1920sp or 480cores would be the max on single gpu, that's as much as 640 old cores.

Maybe 2080sp (520cores) but that would be max max imo

They are for sale on newegg.com and they are cheaper then the 5800 series. OK i must have missed something i thought the 5800 series would drop in price not remain the same.

Nah, the 6800 cards are replacements for the 5800 ones, so you will likely see them disappear, as in EOL as soon as stock is gone, which will probably be in time for the 6970/6990 cards appearing.

I did say that anyone waiting for these to appear so that the 5870/5850 would drop in price was likely to be disappointed.

Why not move the 5800 down to the 4800 and discontinue all series below the 5800's?

Think that already happened a while ago though, when did you last see a brand new 4870?

You have to look at it from a business point of view though, AMD don't want to be competing against themselves, so the 5800 cards have to go.

They have most markets covered, the 5750/5770 for the budget people, now the 6850/6870 for mid range, with the 5870 and 5970 covering the high end with old stock while waiting for the 6970/6990 cards to appear.

Job well done on their part i say.
