They come this week as confirmed in the AIB conference last friday... .But after months of rumors, it's normal discussion about it continue anyway .

    Dirk Meyer ( AMD CEO ): 15.10.2010

We will be launching our second-generation DX11 graphics offerings next week.

Later on, he also had the following to say about what's launching and what the expected volume is:

We'll be introducing our second-generation of DX11 technology into the market with some launch activities actually next week. We'll be shipping all the family members of that product line I'll call it, by the end of this quarter, and total volume think in terms of several hundred thousand, or hundreds of thousands of units.

this is true. its nice to think about what they may or may not be like. im just hoping these cards will at least live up to the hype

If they call it GTX5xx, this mean it's part of kepler and Kepler will not come before half or end 2011 ... if not later ( should be in 28nm process ). (kepler is on the old roadmap of Nvidia, but they was saying late 2011, and they was still write Fermi released in oct 2009, or the cards have only be released in 2010 ....)

Some sites speak about 700 more SP ... but really actually it's just completely impossible they do it with 40nm ... and for the 512bits memory controller it can't be a complete 512bits anyway, it will be 256+256, instead of the actual 256+128)... so it's possible but the gain will surely be useless vs a 384bit controller.
Look for me like they base this on speculation about kepler .. more of a card we will see soon. 512bits controller will be logic for next architectures ( 2012), they estimate a 28nm nod will give them enough place for push 50% more SP ...

So the last possibility is a complete 512SP or maybe a complete GF104...

i agree with your statement. they could of dropped the die size down to something like 38nm or 35nm. the technology is here. i dont understand why they havnet done so already. sure it would of cost some extra money, but in the long run it would of paid off.

Cause Nobody will do it .... the AMD 6K series was initially taped out on 32nm..
TSMC have decided to screw the 32nm process then and use directly 28nm ( but it's not ready yet...) it's why AMD 6K is still on 40nm instead of 32nm ....

Now AMD need to wait the 28nm is ready, for release his real complete new architecture, and all is in the hand of TSMC or Global Fundries ....

So no luck for AMD, as it give time for Nvidia to work on their 28nm and to be ready at the same time AMD will release their 28nm architectures .. ( i think the day AMD can work only with GF and let down TSMC, some fountain of champaign will be drink on the AMD headquarter .. )

After the 5000 series, it will have been perfect for AMD to get a 32nm completely new architectures ( who was ready and taped out in march /april of this year ), and really can release something who will give them a lot of advance vs Nvidia, before die shrink this new architecture on 28nm then ...
But well things not allways goes as you want.

these companies are worried about money. im sure thats what it comes down too. whats this and that going to cost and are we going to make a profit. i look at it like this. you have to spend the money to make the money.

This was surely the main reason for TSMC, + if they can work directly on the 28nm, it's surely better for their future plan ..

true i fell like that if i buy a 470gtx now.. i saw a cheap one for 265€, lol cheapest yet, but still that BartsXT or at least CaymanPro looks like a much better choice.
