AMD Announces Threadripper Processors - 16-cores and 32-threads confirmed

That should make then really cheap compared to a huge silicon, if they can make this with GPUs it would be great

 

Sometimes simple ideas are the most effective. I'm sure there will be some drawbacks from this method but honestly I'm excited to see the end results.

 

This CPU is intriguing as hell! I have an i7 6950x now, but as I'm an AMD fan at heart, I'm seriously thinking about using a "threadripper" in a new build. I spend most of my time making CAD drawings with AutoDesk. A second CAD capable rig is becoming necessary quite often. I think 16c/32t should work nicely whether I overclock or not.

The 10 core 1955X with 4Ghz boost is a beast. This is 10 cores with almost no single threaded penalty vs the other CPU's in the Ryzen line. Just crazy if that is true.


I propose they change EPYC to Rryptonite.

 

Now i want to see what kind of heatsink this thing will need

 

The 1955X looks damned good. Look out for its thermal behaviour, and price of course.

 

Actually the 10 and 12 cores are 125W.

1976x looks like my target CPU in this lineup.

anyone who owns Ryzen right now, How are the Ryzen bugs as of right now? have most things been ironed out or this going to be a slow process?

Looking to made a HEDT system by end of this year, and these chips have interest me. want to know how real world performance is on games and general media stuff

 

Mostly fine. Just some ram incompatibility issues still. Else everything works well.

 

That 1976X is looking soooooo good! Maybe you can squeeze another 100 - 200Mhz from it. I can see it being the new gaming king!

 

Gaming king? From a 12 cores part? Get real: games only use 4 cores.

Don't get me wrong, I defend Ryzen 7 1700 as the best value against i7 7700k.
It's the best processor for all around and with legs to stretch in years to come.
But, it will be a long way until you actually need 24 threads for gaming. No gamer will buy them as clocks still win over threads and these will be expensive.
R5 1600 or R7 1700 are the best CPU's on the market today.

IF memory bandwidth makes such a big difference and IF these parts are of a higher binning than R7/5 then we may start to see 4.2-4.3 out of Ryzen.
Until we see the first reviews of these CPU's any claims made with a stance like yours is ill advised.

 

Yeah only issue is overall bios quirkiness and memory compatibility with speeds and timings- in some cases even the mobo manufacturers' official QVL memory lists aren't fully supported at speeds they claim they are. The issue is hit or miss depending on which mobo manufacturer you go with at this point. The ASRock mobo's seem to be highest rated and reviewed overall based on their bios as a group, followed by Gigabyte and ASUS (Crosshair Hero VI only). I have MSI and while the board is fantastic, the bios releases are very slow and vary by model.

Everything else about end-user computing experience is top notch! I love the platform, and raw power and performance. Unparalleled multi-tasking capability in the personal computing segment
