During their Computex AMD Keynote AMDs Lisa Su has announced three Ryzen 3000 processors. Ryzen 7 3700X (6x/12t), 3800X (8c/16t) And Ryzen 9 3900X (12c/24t). AMD also announced the clock frequencies ...

Hey HH, you made a typo there. The R7 3700X is also 8 core, 16 thread.

    AdoredTV........ Are you ok bro??

I think you need to talk to that "leaker" o_O

Anyhow, that 12 core CPU looks amazing, for $499 you get a 12 core 24 thread CPU @ 4.6GHz with a stupid amount of cache, 15% better IPC than previous gen, all within a 105W TDP!! This basically means that any X370 boards that supports the 2700X should support this chip easily.

Either way, that will be a day one buy from me!

    EDIT:

Maybe they are holding back the 16 core CPU that has been rumoured so much, maybe that will have a 5GHz boost on 1 or 2 cores. They are probably holding something back to see what Intel counters with.

That R9 3900X is looking mighty tasty. It is a shame though that here in Canada, the price is going to suck. It is going to end up costing 750-800 Canadian after tax here, which is bullshit. Not too impressed about that at all.

I don't think Intel can counter. They got nothing. They have been on Skylake since 2015 and will be on it for 2 more years..

They desperately need to move on to a new node and get more performance/watt but can't. So all they do now is 'boost clock rates' while the truth lies in the fact you'd never be able to hold those clock rates for more than 2 seconds at the chips supposed TDP.

The Core i7 9900K is 580$MSRP and we pay 650$CAD before tax. See for yourself:
    https://www.newegg.ca/core-i9-9th-gen-intel-core-i9-9900k/p/N82E16819117957

With QC tax, it's 747.50$CAD. So, I would imagine ~80-100$ less for the R9 3900X. Give or take. Since the R9 3900X is 499$MSRP.
So, not as much as you are giving out to be.

I didn't expect Ryzen7 to keep 8 cores, instead of going for 12. Leaks also got it wrong.
    Only Ryzen9 is 12 cores.

They got nothing to counter until we know the performance of Matisse for gaming.

"First 12 cores gaming CPU" is not very encouraging.

So the 5 Ghz mantra is still out of reach even on 7 nm??? Thunders and strikes!!! Meanwhile at intel: https://www.guru3d.com/news-story/i...-processor-runs-5-ghz-on-all-eight-cores.html
So the "leaks" were false or a big marketing campaign and also nobody "leaked" the 9900ks - it just appeared from thin air...hmm

Now before amd fanboys hitting back in anger these are very good times for us the consumers: finally intel has an opponent and they will have to think twice before setting the price on their premium CPU's.

The TDP for all the AMD 7 nm family seems kind of high - in the 14 nm range from intel + x570 chipset needs active cooling but of course Dr. Su is adorable like always.

I haven't had an AMD based system since my AMD Althon 64+ and FX-55 something like 15yrs ago, so this sewms really exciting.

I want to pick up a X470 board as I here these will be compatible both with these new chips and the PCIE-4.0 architecture. I gather though those x470 boards are going to stop being sold, so people are forced to buy the newer x570...

With its improved IPC, AMD probably decided the 12 core is enough to counter Intel at this time. Although it was possible to get those 16 cores, much like Intel did for so many years AMD held back because of the lack of competition in this segment.

They have stated the gaming performance of the X3800 is on par with that of the 9900K... which if you include the clocks and IPC gain would be around 5GHz equivelent to Intels.

The X3700 was on par gaming wise with the 9700K the X3700 boosts to 4.4GHz while the 9700K boosts to 4.9GHz, while beating it in multi core workloads which for a 65w part is impressive

So although they have not hit the 5GHz mark the fact they can perform while being 500-600Mhz lower clocked isn't bad at all. GHz isn't everything.

As great as Zen2 shapes up to be, I want to see numbers first. For the price, it's already winner as it been.
