It's you who don't understand that "math" does not, and has never meant linear scaling of performance with $$. Pretty basic $#^ really...

Also... in the eye of a customer - "bang" is not only about perf.
If perf/$ was The(only) metric, AMD would be the king of the Universe and not struggling like in the real world.

I think you misinterpreted what I said. I said not everyone needs a graphics card for gaming. Your own reference "EVERYONE wants a fast graphics card" but down to "Cost Involved" is self explanatory, everyone wants a Ferrari. I think you will find I do understand what I'm talking about as I've done contracted work in I.T. in rural parts of Africa. Yes consumer based markets are booming with with mobiles and tablets but aren't sufficient enough in terms of business and education. People really need to think outside of the "gaming box" here and think about I.T. components on a "global business scale."

Then you need to realise even the 460/470 products are out of reach for many in those countries. Why? cause it's one component of a whole that is in itself expensive....to them. For these countries a cpu+igpu makes much more sense cost-wise (which AMD has). Unless they need to do any serious gfx based-work, then, gpu isn't required by much of the populace who don't game.

For those people, having access to the internet in the first place is much more important. Business ofcourse is global, but, expendable income differs hugely.

    :infinity::infinity:

    980: $549
    1080: $599

    599/549: 1.09

    970: $329
    1070: $379

    379/329 : 1.15

Let's just make up numbers shall we !

    Let's assume for a minute the 8GB 480 is for $240

The 1070 is 47% faster at stock

In AotS the 1070 is also 47% faster (34 vs 50)

    379/240 : 57% more expensive

    Price of 1070 relative to 480: 157%
    Performance of 1070 relative to 480: 147%

    Price/performance ratio: 157/147 : 1.07%

    7% higher

I dunno why this thread has turned into the 480 thread, but, it wasn't that long ago when I really wanted a GTX 980. For the money, you really can't go wrong with an RX 480, especially if for $240~ you get 8GB memory. If you're running lower than 1080P, then, yeah, it'll be an even greater card for you.

EVGA sells one for $610. Granted none of the 1080s are in stock at all basically, and the cheapest will obviously be the hardest to get going forward, but it does exist. This isn't even to mention that when AMD cards finally release, or their performance is shown, the MSRP will be hit really quick if they are competitive.

Show me where I can buy a 480.

    LOL.

    534 + VAT = 651 euros

    + 30-40 euros other EU fees and we're at around 690 euros for a non-FE 1080.

What is bothering you exactly ? The EU?

    $250 8GB 480; ~300 euros
    $379 8GB 1070; ~450 euros

If the complaint is about price gouging and low inventory, that's hardly 10XX specific, it's always been this way. Always.

The price hike isn't even proportional to the cost increase in manufacturing the dies, which is great

$599 is the official mrsp. Nothing biased about it. Current prices is the early adopter/new product release/premium price. The prices will settle, give it time.

This is cheapest I found after just a quick browse for $699

    https://www.amazon.com/GeForce-Foun...id=1465923898&sr=8-1&keywords=NVIDIA+GTX+1080

which if directly converted is 623.49€. So, it's obvious, you can't compare $ price to euro prices.

Here.. some EU 1080s at amazon. First the ASUS.

Nice ! You're posting prices of the founder's edition, from 3rd party sellers who are price gouging. How impartial of you goku

It's even cheaper then that. All the AIB custom designs are like ~$650 and come in stock during various times of the day. Like I said, EVGA sells one as low as $610 it's just near impossible to get at the moment. Which isn't really surprising considering the 600 series launch was the same.

I don't know why EU prices are so inflated, probably due to taxes on imported goods + distribution channels requiring more effort to bring products in. But in the US you can find AIB 1080's cheaper then what they were selling reference Ti's for.

Why would prices ever be lower then MSRP?

Also not everyone lives in Europe. (Does this work the opposite way?)

    Which proves my point tbh.

In the UK, the cheapest at ocuk is this one which £525

    https://www.overclockers.co.uk/kfa2...ess-graphics-card-80nsj6dhk5vk-gx-087-kf.html

which is 662.17€, so yeah, you're getting ripped-off in the EU. Until Aelders posted, then, it's us in UK getting ripped-off :nerd:

Lol, goku just goes on amazon, searches gtx 1080 and finds the highest priced one from 3rd party price gouging bastards and posts them pretending that's all he can find.

    10/10

630 euros is insanely cheap lol, msrp is $599, that's 508 euros without vat, subtract another 30 euros of other EU fees and we're at 480 euros which is 540 USD

How he thinks he can get away with this is beyond me rofl
    [IMG]

this is what he posted as 'proof'

I always assumed you were british for some reason, and your new picture with the goat enforces that idea for some reason.

Yeah.. its a shame that 630€ is not available, unlucky us. Let them update the price when it becomes available. Will talk then.

    rekt

I posted 3 different cards, didnt look if they were sold by amazon or not, prices are the same.

You can try to look for a cheaper one, gl with that btw.

PS: im done with you, you are just to dumb and biased to be true.

EVGA is selling an ACX3.0 1080 for $619 that's very close to MSRP. Give it a month when there is stock and prices will come down to where they are supposed to be.

Goiur you are just as bias so don't try to sling mud.
