The one who dosnt want to buy that overpriced 1070 like you did. Paying 500€ for it is just wrong.

I assume you don't early adopt anything, right?

If it really is wrong, then, you need a new hobby. For me GTX 1070 is one of the cheapest gfx cards I've ever bought. Should I buy a Fury X instead?

I wouldn't recommend 60 fps product unless they have free-sync or g-sync. If they're going to play with a regular monitor, 80fps product (with vsync on) could be a good target, so the gpu can mitigate stutter scenes running below 90% usage.

Anyway. I'm really interested in this Polaris thing, but I think AMD should give more options, between 300 and 450 usd. There's a lot of market that would buy a GPU there. I'd like to upgrade my 970 and try AMD again, but this polaris is not enough for me, I'll have to wait for a better gpu.

I get that AMD is targeting the masses and it's definitely a good strategy for them. But I don't think anyone should be surprised that there are going to be a vocal majority of gamers, on forums, that are going to dislike the direction they are headed and are going to complain about it.

Of that 80% that AMD is targeting, the majority of those people don't buy graphics cards. They buy PC's that come with graphics cards. Those people don't post on forums or care what's in their computer. I know several of these people and they couldn't even tell you what vendor their card is and if they can it's only because it bugs them for updates every once in a while.

This also poses another problem with AMD, one they are hopefully solving because it's going to effect them with Zen as well. They have a huge industry image problem. Companies like Dell, HP, Lenovo and ASUS don't produce high end models around AMD silicon. They don't market them, they don't equally distribute them and they don't produce them in numbers. This is mainly because the general perception of AMD is that they are for budget, low end devices. AMD needs to turn this around somehow before any of these companies are going to want to actually market and build big name devices around their hardware.

I think RX480 has the capability to do this but AMD is going to need to step up it's general marketing big time. They also need some large design wins. Hopefully the rumors about the Apple stuff is true -- Apple is often viewed as having high quality hardware by the general industry (despite it being mostly foxconn). Having AMD hardware powering Apple devices, especially in a prominent way would be hugely successful for turning around their image problem.

Sorry, I forgot to specify, I didn't talk about the 480, just 460 and 470.

It's been ages since I went Ati/Amd, but since I simply cannot afford GTX _70 cards any more, the RX 480 seems like a great deal to me. It's much better than my ageing 670 and it costs an acceptable sum, especially when I sell my 670.

Good in theory, but, the problem for AMD is no-one cares what the gfx in ipads/iphones are either. These AMD-powered Apple products certainly won't have AMD logo anywhere so I highly doubt AMD will benefit from it. Those details only matter to people like us, the general public doesn't care. They only care that all their apps work across all generations of those products.

So many salty people on this thread. Cheap graphics cards make perfect sense as a business model. There are MANY people who want entry level graphics cards for home/school/work PC's. Think about if you sold a bag of these in India or Africa, you would make way more money than in the higher end select 'niche' markets. Not everyone wants a fast graphics card for gaming.

    Guess what clown,

I was on q6600 qand HD 5770 all the way up till 2013.

So what I have is irrelevant to what actually happens in the market.

The RX 480 is a perfect replacement my step sons rig with a R9 280.

That's rubbish. EVERYONE who plays games wants a fast graphics card for gaming, the problem is costs involved. Also, you don't understand the countries you're talking about. Both India and Africa have power issues. For those countries I don't think PC is even the way to go for the populace, which is why they're emerging markets for mobiles followed by tablets.

Once again, I've already said 480 is a very good product. This is the 460/470 thread though, why don't you save some money and buy one of those two?

    Why? You already know why.

    Not necessarily.

Having the performance crown basically lets the products market themselves.

Sure you can find AMD CPU's for instance that can compete with a few of the less high end intels, yet the sheer name "intel" and the fact that people associate it with performance, sells.

In a market where performance matters, being able to deliver top tier performance always matters, even for the medium range sales.

The fact that they're losing foothold even in the GPU section is worrisome. We're all informed users, yet the casual around the corner will get an Nvidia 1050 GTX (if it ever is released), simply because his mate is rocking hard with his 1080.

Ignore him, he's calling 1070 overpriced but it's faster and cheaper than the FuryX he would blindly recommend.

As I thought, anything to go up against 1070 will be small Vega.

Geez what happened to these forums.. So many 1 percent's feeling the need to justify their purchases - guys these cards aren't targeted at you so why bash the hell out of them? Or is it just because it's AMD and that's seems to be the requirement these days on here?
