Probably. But let's remember how screwed up is the chip market today.
In all of history, there has never been a year so bad for the PC. And 2022 will continue the trend of 2021, for at least most of the year.

DDR4/AM4 i still quite futureproof with PCIE 4.0. It's far from obsolete .

I´m thinking the same but i think it´s preferable to wait for Zen4 if both are going to require a new MB.

Hopefully ddr5 is stabilized in market by the times i go AM5.
    Was hoping a 5800x3d would be AM4.

I read somewhere that shortage of materials will last until 2023 at least , so its nice they continue to improve technology while no one can obtain it.

Well, you can always read the reviews and imagine/dream you are building an amazing rig with those parts that we just can´t buy...

Or you can play PC building simulator...

I hope they offer both, like Intel. I think DDR5 is an absolute necessity for iGPUs but otherwise, it's an unnecessary added expense in real-world use cases, at least for the average desktop PC. DDR5 will likely never see prices match DDR4, simply because of the embedded ECC (unless you get a module without ECC, which I'm sure will be available eventually).

    Looks like a tweener CPU.

    Perhaps a bit of both?

From what I see in the slides I don't see that 5800X3D will be on socket AM5, just the Zen4 processors.

if the estimates of 15% over non 3d Zen 3 are right this will be a nice upgrade from my 3700X and since I'm already on a 570 board I don't have to fear for compatibility.

    indeed :(
was kinda waiting for the 5900X3D to come out, now i'll have to see how the 5800X3D stacks up against the 5900X (though since they didn't add a price perhaps the "3D" part is quite expensive making the 5900X3D/5950X3D somewhat silly in pricing?

Soooo AMD beats Alder Lake on few years old platform ?

I expect premium prices for these 3D cache CPUs :(.

Did you guys hear Lisa say that during that Zen4 CPU Halo demo that ALL cores were running at 5GHz!!!???? :D

    Givvme givvme givvme!!!!!!

The 5800X3D beating a 5900X and it being on AM4 is a nice touch, already beating Alder Lake lol.

The RX6500 for low end at $199 is a good deal, much better than the RTX 3050 at $249. AMD could easily take the entry level crown here, especially with FSR now being inside the driver software as RSR.

Just finished the Nvidia keynote.... it was awful. An overpriced low end GPU, an announcement of an over priced 3090Ti that will get scalped to high hell and then just talking about some weird AI for cars.

I'll wait Zen5 and use PCIe5 (didn't they said that they will remain at pcie4? I was so sad when i heard that), DDR5, AM5. (it was something more with 5 but I forgot, not GDDR5X)

    They missed this opportunity lol.

I doubt they are coming. The cache is mostly going to help gaming and AMD just wanted to say they are faster than Intel at gaming. What this says to me is that Zen4 is going to come sooner than later in the 2nd half of this year.

Zen4 is going to be a bad mother F'er. That is early silicon doing all core 5 Ghz.

Yep, its looking good lets hope they can sustain 5GHz as they test the cores and hopefully can push it further.

Nvidia's presentation was a joke in comparison. They brought us an overpriced low end GPU and what will be an insanely overpriced highend gpu and then just talked crap about cars and AI. At least AMD had actual products and talked about future products.

It always feel like a weird "excuse" to justify products to me. I mean why should people care about how screwed the chip market is? Only thing people care about is the price they pay. In the case of GPUs at least you can resell your old GPU at an inflated price. Still feels bad because you basically rip off someone else before being ripped off yourself but that's how i paid for my RX 6800 by selling my 5700XT for an absurd amount of money (significantly more than i paid for it brand new).

In the case of DDR5 i'm not too confident it will retain it's high price when resold used in a couple of years. There's just no point going DDR 5 right now considering the price unless you are someone with an infinite budget. The money is better spent somewhere else in the system. Last time i checked the cheapest 32GB DDR5 kit (5600) sold on Newegg.ca was 550$ CAD. I paid 280$ CAD for 32GB of DDR 4 (4133) a year ago ... if you factor in taxes that's 300$ CAD less ...

Well 5800X3D going have 96MB of L3 cache, can't see 5950X3D launching would be 192MB cache with two ccx.
