AMD Adds 5 new CPU models including Ryzen 7 5700X

Little too late amd.

 

I don't quite understand the logic behind dropping many of the models to PCIe 3. Were the chips found faulty in some peculiar way, which prevented them from working in PCIe 4, but they could still handle Gen 3?

Obviously. Stock eventually piled enough to make financial cense to package and distribute. Silicon Wafers are expensive af and if you can sell these supposedly discarded units: extra profit!
Personally I don't mind at all, Ryzen 3000 never went down in price and Ryzen 5000 was expensive af, so maybe one of these makes more sense to upgrade my Ryzen 2600.

 

They're based on Cezanne, which is a monolithic die. I don't understand why that makes them gen 3 but it seems to be just part of the architecture. I get the impression Cezannes were originally meant to be mobile chips, so perhaps these are higher-binned models that can handle higher clock speeds.

A 5700x at 1440p and 4k is maybe 0-15% slower then a 12700 - 12900KS, I can live with that just fine for around half the price, motherboard and memory is half the price too, 1/3 the price if someone already has a AM4 PC.
Even when AM5 releases, a "old" machine with a 5700x upgrade, is still going to be a very nice gaming machine for someone who does not have a 3090 or faster then a 165hz screen.
I do agree that it is late, but not at all "too late".

I am pretty sure AMD will adjust the AM5 release according to how popular these late AM4 chips would be and the price of DDR 5
AM5 could be 8 core and up, for half a year before the lower chips arrive, so these AM4 chips needs to take the mid to low tier sales, until DDR 5 prices come down or the AM4 stock runs out.

5600x and 5700x, 6 core and 8 core from exactly the same series,no refresh,had the same 299msrp
they really milked am4 late in the cycle.the cheapest cpu being a $299 six core,then next one at $450 was a boss move.
People who bought under 200 had to get a 300usd,people who bought under 300 had to get a 450 one.
It's the same thing as nvidia saying "with the introduction of ampere,gamers buy up".well no effing wonder if there's no other options.

that said,I'd get a 5700x for 270eur,even this late. it's a good buy with ddr4.

 

I see it as an option for people with b350/450 motherboards. These are not competitive with alder lake if your buying new system.

 

The 5700x was the big missing hole in AMDs lineup. The gap from 5600x to 5800x ($300 to 450) was just too much for them not to take advantage of. Too little, too late now.

I think I may get me a 5700x.
Sell my 5600x or slap it in my HTPC with a 1600af.

 

5600 non x already number 5 on Amazon
it is never too late for cheap fast processors

 

Owners of AM4 boards will snap these up pretty quick at those prices.
