Found a smashed iPhone 6s someone had thrown out, bought a replacement screen from Amazon for 24 EUR and now have a perfect little satnav phone for my new car :)

Most of my hardware parts are from salvaged or repaired stuff.
I buy also new hardware, but the very idea of giving another life to a damaged or broken device is what makes me tick.

Latest revived item in my hardware lot is a Lenovo ThinkPad Yoga 15 in absolute perfect condition. Someone botched the BIOS update and the unit seemed broken.
Flashed the correct BIOS and now I have a new Linux laptop sporting flexible HD IPS screen, backlight keyboard for free.

Pays to learn to fix computers in the long term!

I have a same opinion but I have put such efforts to halt because then you have too much stuff that just you have no use for and no one to sell it to or give it away. Sooner or later space and time constraints will win over otherwise nice idea.

    @Raserian Spot on.
I am well aware of tech hoarding and I make everything to keep minimum stuff around.
Most of salvaged, repaired or revived items find their way to family, friends or donated to various causes or not so fortunate persons.
That reminds me to upgrade my God daughter's laptop, she still rocks a Core 2Duo Dell laptop which I repaired, upgraded and gave it to her when she started to have online classes.
Needless to say that she runs Linux and she isn't aware of it.

    Made my day. :D

Btw. I just threw some old 2011 boards and barebones away!!! I finally did it!!!! THE SPAAAAAACE!!!! :D

I still have some Fujitsu Lifebook E751 with an i7-3620M I think and a lot of sensors and stuff, together with 2x 4GB DDR3 and a 256GB Samsung 840 Pro.
The cooler is noisy and ramps up and down, sounds like rotating unevenly.
    My wife's old laptop ... :(

Good luck with your iPhone OP! Looks nice again, hope it stays alive for many years. ;)

Laptops with this issue hate this trick!
Disassemble the unit, and the fan casing. Usually the propeller can be moved out of the shaft. Clean thoroughly the fan case and the propeller fins. Smear some lithium grease on the shaft and reposition the propeller. Close the fan casing and replace the TIM. Will work better anyway.

Tip 1 . The propeller is fixed with a retaining nut- WD40 is your friend. Dose the fan in generous amounts of WD40, rinse and dry it with paper towel.
Tip 2 You don't have lithium grease - door bolts, axe grinder have it. (disassemble the gear mechanism - 4 screws)
Tip 3 Have a beer ready, either is a success and you need to celebrate, or a fiasco so you drink to forget your trouble.

    Cheers!

I fixed 3x 120mm and 1x 200m nzxt fans out of my case like that

all of them were making loud noises like scraping?

took em all apart, cleaned, some wd40 and they are now like new

    impressed myself there xD

Repairing computers always goes better with a cold beer on the side.
If you don't do this already, you are missing out. If you do this, you know by now that that beer ALWAYS has to be further away from whatever electronics you are repairing.

Fujitsu laptops generally come with rather noisy fans. I have a T901. I thought the fan was noisy so I replaced it with same new OEM part and noise from new fan was same. Not sure if they changed over the years but their professional lifebook laptops from circa 2010 - 2012 were expensive and rather of a poor build quality. All plastic case, loud fan, overheating and throttling.

That sounds like a good idea. I've been binge watching Star Trek TNG and Voyager.

The only show I watched on Netflix was Black MIrror and The Witcher, which I've seen Henry Cavill got cancelled because he dated Gina Carano. I ain't got time for that crap

I opened up and upgraded a laptop for the first time a wee while back, got the iFixIt precision set now too, just for the lappy though.
So many how-to vids on youtube these days (like Airbud mentioned)makes repairs /tweaks /upgrades so much easier.

When I started, those videos were scarce and sometimes poor quality.
I relied on schematics, wits and lots of trial and error.
I learned very fast when to stop. And when to ask for help.

If it anything like show, it will be very confused "canceled" show some will know it other wont, some will think it and other wont, and i talking about people related to the show.

Joke aside other then fact I found whole first season very diffuclt to follow cause kept jumping around timelines? Era's of time? that any time I tried to make sense of anything I just got confused. If i want Time jumping stuff I would go watch Doctor Who, and if didnt know who some the characters where you would never know it either that timeless and or era time are jumping. which made thing worse
