Reminded me of when I was just learning how to use a computer to draw.... someone told me that using a computer to draw isn't real art because the computer is doing it and it's not physically real.

I still think about this a lot.

just wait until they add in a feedback loop and the machine starts imagining things on its own, without human direction

"... that has to be created by a human being without the aid of a picture generating algorithm."
    Rules changed, problem solved.

But honestly, it's a damn good result imho.

Unless it's being used for video games art is a joke. Especially modern art.

Tbh the guy who after multiple iterations and fine tuning the wording he gives the algorithm got it where it is can be called an artist as much as the other person learning the mechanical skills for years or not years. It just brings creative things to a bit wider audience. You imagine something you can most likely deliver with the help of an algorithm instead of being stuck in "I can't use my hands to paint what I am seeing with my minds eye"

Sounds like the digital art category needs a sub category now "Generated by computer AI" :D

We've already seen examples where the entertainment industry can artificially age/de-age, or even insert deceased actors into a production if it serves a purpose. Actually, I'm a little surprised there aren't completely imagined virtual performers with non-virtual "careers" who can act, sing, dance and play any musical instrument perfectly.

    Perfectly.

I feel certain it wouldn't be all that difficult to have a virtual performer sit on the couch on the late-night entertainment (?) television programs, promoting it's involvement in something you absolutely *must* experience, and be just as vapid and boring as most of their human counterparts. That aside, you might already be imagining a football game where every participant, (even the damn referees!), are at the absolute peak of professionalism. Who wouldn't love that?

But, the real breakthrough would be to push this technology into the realm of politics and governing. Ponder that for a minute, or so...

My thoughts on this AI-generated and/or AI-assisted "art" is similar to the old concept of, if you allow x number of monkeys, to pound away at x number of typewriters, for x amount of time, they'll eventually reproduce the complete works of William Shakespeare. Just be prepared to wait awhile. (Bring something to read. And, maybe lunch, too.)

However, here, with the miracle of AI, we're talking about a lot of monkeys, a lot of typewriters, and a very compressed timeframe. Oh! And also, while that the end-result may well be Shakespeare-esque, and possibly as entertaining, it will, most definitely, not be Shakespeare.

There is Art. And, pseudo-art. This is an example of the former:

My avatar was made by Ai, I requested a red robot flying in a yellow sky with a spaceship and this is what it gave me. I then flipped it so hes looking at my post and added the bRb in Photoshop

    The artist should be upset.

Just implement rules. Only drawn art without the help of a computer.

Pencils, erasers, paints, crayons, brushes and a canvas.

Something I've noticed about the flood of ai generated pictures being posted on deviantart is that 99% of the time when there is a human face in the image, the eyes are messed up...

It's also funny to see people pretending to be artists, with new accounts tagging their images with "digital painting" ... or even commenting that it's a drawing of their girlfriend, when it is obviously an ai generated picture with ****** up eyes.
