AGP settings page questions

After running nVhardpage, I enabled all the cool bits and other settings stuff. I'm using the 52.16 drivers with an Asylum Ti4200SE 128M 8X video card. When I go into the advanced settings on my display properties, I was checking out the AGP settings screen. On this screen it shows what the different components are able to support in terms of speed, fast writes etc. Under the OS column, it showed that the OS could only support 2X AGP speeds, yet the hardware shows it can support 8X.
Now, my question is, how can I verify what the real speed is? Is the hardware only able to really run what the OS supports? Or, is the first info page for the card that shows 8X as the AGP speed correct?

    The OS is winXP home.

    Hi,
something is wrong ... your card support AGP 8x and your motherboard support AGP 8x too. If AGP Page show all information correct, its problem maybe with nForce drivers for your motherboard. Try reinstalling it or installing new version (look at download section for updated drivers).

Just for clarification, this is the page I'm talking about:

    Capability GPU Chipset OS Optimal
    AGP version 3.0 3.0 3.0 3.0
    Max AGP Rate 8X 8X 2X 8X
    Max req queue 32 32 32 32
Fast writes Yes Yes Yes Yes
Sideband addr Yes Yes No Yes

It says above this that you can choose to override the optimal configuration settings below.

It would appear that I am currently set for the optimal then, and the OS has been overridden by the driver?

    I have info:

    Capability GPU Chipset OS Optimal
    AGP version 3.0 2.0 3.0 2.0
    Max AGP Rate 8X 4X 4X 4X
    Max req queue 32 32 32 32
Fast writes Yes Yes Yes Yes
Sideband addr Yes Yes Yes Yes

And my realy speed AGP is 1x , why ??? when optimal is 4x
    where is problem???

I would suspect that your motherboard is using the Via KX133 and 694X Chipset. If this is the case, you need to force a registry bit on for 4X mode. If your BIOS supports it, you can change the drive strength to a value of DA, and see if that helps.
I've seen a registry entry you can create for Win2000 that MAY work on XP. Create this entry:
    HLKM\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\nv4\Device0\EnableVia4X

From where in your PC you read that your AGP speed is 1x?

    I read that i have AGP 1x from [desktop->properties->...->geforce 4 mx 440-> AGP Settings]

AGP Settings I activate in NvHardPage.

But now i read the AGB parameter from RivaTuner(latest version) and I see report:

Your AGP speed is set to 4x, so all is ok :)
