I current have 16gb 2400mhz cl 16 ram, was thinking 32gb CL 14 3600 or 3400mhz to go with in the asrock Z170 extreme 4 would cost like 99$ and getting 2gb nvme drive for 120$, but i not sure the ram upgrade will really do much for me. Nmve probably will not be much different maybe lil faster and this direct storage when ever it become standard should increase sata load times. or should just look to make new pc? or just get new gpu(which whole other story consider prices). I been going back and forth. get 12700k+asus Z690 tuf with wifi for 340$ + 130 for 6000mhz CL 16 DDR5 and another 59$ for deepcool HSF. or get new gpu for roughly same price. Microcenter has some nice prices
dont know asrock say 3600 is max it take and only single channel mode. i just mulling over what upgrade path would be worth it
Worth it for what though? If you want a PC to look at in a room corner, keep what you have, perhaps change the case. If there is some other use not mentioned, we might be able to advise.
Definitely do not invest more money into that old low-core computer. Save it all for a proper upgrade !
it my gaming pc which at this point is meh, it was better then ps4 pro atlest as far 1080p/1440p60 on high went, it dont compare to ps5 though perf wise, less i keep playing old games like nioh and nioh 2 other 5+ years old games
Its a bit old in the tooth going forward I'm afraid. Many current games are too much for the 6700K no matter what speed/quantity of ram or gfx card. Even 6 core CPUs (plus HT) sometimes have a hard time, 8 core minimum now if you want it to last. I'm typing this on a 6700K used for a few old games and general web browsing but anything newer goes on my 10700K/3090 machine. 16GB ram still cuts it but if buying now I'd get 32GB.
any new pc will be 32gb at the min and 5600-6000mhz, as for cpu i would like to stick with i7 series but i want 65tdp chips, less i can actual limit the PL1/2 to like 95 tdp and it actaully sticks. I sure new new gpu will give new life to system in the games i have that max out gpu, but cost to get said gpu i could buy the cpu/mb/ram/hsf and possible psu which i should replace seeing it is pushing 10years old
What resolution, framerate and game quality settings would you like? How long do you need it to last and what compromises in game res/framerate etc. would you make over time? What is your budget?
1440p min 60fps@ highest/high setting and concerning 4k it still costly and general DSR 4k look worse then 1440p DSR on my monitor, when i cant meet 60fps stable i start lowering settings. my budget is 600ish for cpu/mb/ram and gpu budget is really 399-450 give take i not will to pay more then that the gpu. and with nvidia way of thinking for pricing that will net entry level card now? as stand i can get 12700k+asus z690 tuf wifi+ 6000mhz ddr5 at 34cl just for about 450 atlest from microcenter. i just thinking i want to wait till the 14xxx series cause there supposed be much more efficient.
Is that new? 450$ seems quite a deal for those parts. I payed 600$ for 7600x/b650/32gb 6000. Did you though going am5? It will surely last you longer.
@tsunami231 I have 32GB of ram and one thing I did noticed when it comes to Ray Tracing and how W10 vs W11 uses ram in said feature is that W11 uses way less. But yeah, I think its time for 32GB of ram for gaming PC's. But preferably in a new build in your case.
yah think not worth investing in new ram on system i could get nvme 4.0 and stick in system and move over to new system once i fiqure it out, buy new gpu and wait till metor lake cpu out or get current stuff and get gpu later
not really, the game that uses most ram is hogwarts legacy, and is the only game in the world to need so much ram, every other game uses max 11gb, and that s warzone 2, which uses even less than that
Depends on how much vram you have. So if you have 8gb+16gb the games like resident evil, last of us, hogwarts = crash but if you have 8gb+32gb then vram will spill into system ram and you'll have performance degradatition but it wont crash.
thing don t look good for a pc consumer from now on, requiring u to pay a hefty amount of money for new gen gpu, with only 12gb v ram.... things don t look good at all for pc gaming.i will try last of us and will give back input if there s crash
I stop looking for time begin at best I will just get nmve 4.0 like the WD SN850x if i see a really good sale and put in my system. but the insane price microcenter had are gone most went. I could get 13700k+MB+32gb ram for 650$ there at moment or or 12700k+MB for $399 neither price a really inciting to me atm
