Well i can see that it is various ages in this forum, and that makes me glad!.
I hope this will make you all think about your answers to newbies and others who might have questions about comps.
"So much knowledge, still no answers".
What i mean is, you dont have to be rude to be an expert.
By the way my question still is "what is the average age in this forum" not "what comp was your first one"
No hard feelings, just a remark.
as long as we're talking about "firsts", mine was a tandy color 1000 that used a cassette tape as storage! i think it used basic and came with some programs that had to be manually inputed ( typed) to do anything. that was about 1983 i think

Luckily for you, modern OSes still allow you to create total havoc by misplacing a command and having to debug line by line, just like in the old days!

As long as were talking about our first pc's. Mine was a Tandy 1000 rl. A few months after I got it I got the hard drive too. 40 meg. I thought I would never fill it, and I never did. I sold it for $500. 16 color monitor, dot printer and all the games I had for it, when I bought my pentium 90.
It took about three minutes to load up the origional civilization on that puppy. After that I wasted tons of time on that game.

well i win ( for age anyway) i'm 14, my first computer was a ibm i think 48 mgb ram 4 gig hard drive 366hertz man did i think i was getting a good deal for $1500 now days i actually know what i'm doing least i think : 1.5ghz, 256mgb( waiting on upgrade) 40.8 gb hard drive voodoo3-3000.( upgrading that soon aswell to voodoo5 or maybe wait for tnt2-ultra)
11. Well, I'm 17, and my first was an IBM 8086 with 2 MB (thanks to Grandpa Bob!), I then upgraded to a Cyrix 486SLC2-50mhz with 16 MB EDO and a Trident 2 MB PCI Card (the first of it's kind!), then I had a Wintel Pentium MMX 166 oc'ed to 233 (I was so proud!) and a Voodoo 3 2000. Now I have my Duron 650@747, 128 MB of PC100@133 Memory, same Voodoo 3 oc'ed to 190 mhz, and a Vortex1 soundcard. I'm happy! (Still want a V5 or, sadly, a GFIII!)

nah nah nah, youve got it all wrong David_Hardy...i win for age...im 13...im not some dumbass average 13 year old kid though...ive fixed a lotta PC's in my days concerning some pretty hefty software and hardware problems at times, i fit all my own hardware and crap like that, etc, etc...(im actually being serious here)

anyway...the first PC i ever layed my hands on was a Commadore 64 (i think thats how u spell it)...oh the dreaded days...(good old BASIC)
i eventually progressed up the scale to a 286 (WHOA!!! BIG JUMP IN TECHNOLOGY THERE!!!) with a 20MB HDD...
then...eventually...into the world of windows...my trusty old Pentium 200 MMX...hehehe
ah well...i left all that crap behind...ive got myself a Celeron A 500Mhz 4.3GB 192MB Ram 56K Modem ...etc etc
due for a good upgrade...im happy to say that im gonna be gettin a new one soon...probably a P4 1.5Ghz, 256MB Ram, maybe a GeForce 2 Ultra (money people money...) or something like that...
All of a sudden i feel very young being only 16 myself. I think I must be the youngest person to post here. Although my first computer was a tandy 1000 i think. Ahh the good old monocrome monitor and having two 5 1/4" drives. You booted dos off of one and ran your program off the other. Those were the days i can remember when i thought a good computer was anything with a colour monitor
