Illegal or not, ads are still annoying as hell. That's like saying pop-up blockers are illegal.

Zaneis said. "People are free to ignore ads, and they often do that, but when you have a third party blocking those ads, that's the real problem."

This part right here is what the ignorance is about. What he says is tantamount to letting another person get in your face, scream and yell at you, and when you move one way to see past them, they move with you to stay in your vision.

It's the same as letting a fly or gnat buzz your face and "just ignore it".

That is what this person is saying, "when someone or something annoys you, just ignore it".

People like this are what make the world the crap hole it is.

What would they do about all the people editing their HOSTS files? Ads are annoying, and if a site is heavy with them I simply don't visit the site, adblocking software or not.

I don't even go into sites that have THAT many ads. I don't think I like the idea of it being illegal though. There are plenty of reasons to not want to show ads. One of them being bandwidth. It's one thing to just ignore something in your face, but it's another when they thing keeps sucking something from you. If you ignore that mosquito long enough it'll start sucking blood. Just imagine that blood being bandwidth. Ads are just as bad as spam in my opinion. It's not wonder bandwidth gets limited with all the spam and ads flying around everywhere.

If I want to block ads so that it's not stealing bandwidth then I will, though I don't since my bandwidth isn't limited. There are plenty of legit reasons to use ad blockers and if one ever gets taking to court over it the company that is suing that person will lose. I think they are just trying to be like the RIAA on this one. It's probably the whole idea of, "we are losing money since people can't click on our ads if the ads are blocked." That's just stupid since most people click on the ads on accident anyways. I've only purposefully clicked on ads 3 times, ever.

You should allow all ads for Guru3d, thats how Hilbert makes the money to keep the servers/website etc running.

Its freeloading if you have it blocking on G3D....

Same goes for any web site that has ads. By blocking them you just jumped the turnstyle. ie ripped them off. Web server space isn't free.

Hey ,you know what ...?? I don't give a ****. I am a webmaster too. My image hosting website is 100% pop-up and advertising free! And this is why I get a lot of traffic. Because it stands out from other image hosting companys that will "rape" you with pop-ups and advertisement.

With ad blockers you get a choice. Besides, who knows what scripts are being run in the background when those ads are up?

Maybe. They have been trying to make it illegal to skip over commercials on TV for quite some time now. Guess it hasn't gotten through though.
