This guide is for anyone who owns a laptop with a mobility x2500 graphics card, and wants to get the very best out of it. First of all make sure that you have the latest chipset driver for your motherboard; if, like me, you have an acer travelmate 5720G, then what you seek can be found here: http://downloadmirror.intel.com/17407/a08/winvista_15124.exe if not, intel's identification utility can be found here: http://downloadcenter.intel.com/T8C...Util.exe&PrdMap=&strOSs=&OSFullName=&lang=ENG Note: To run the utility on Microsoft Windows* Vista, right-click on CHIPUTIL.EXE and click "Run as Administrator". Match whatever chipset you have to the software on the intel site. Once that step is complete, make sure to update microsoft's graphic control driver by heading to the Device Manager, right-clicking display adapter, and Update graphic driver then hit "Scan Automatically Online". This is to make sure that the graphics card is identifed properly with the control file in the next step. Okay next download the latest ati graphics driver with catalyst control center (currently 9.3). Run the installer, let it extract to C:\Ati, but cancel the procedure at the main install page. Then, go to C:\ATI\SUPPORT\9_3_vista32_win7_32_dd_ccc_wdm_enu\Packages\Drivers\Display\LH_INF and locate file "CL_76828" open the file in notepad and add the entry: "ATI MOBILITY RADEON X2500" = ati2mtag_M56, PCI\VEN_1002&DEV_71DE&SUBSYS_011F1025&REV_00 save the file then go back to Device Manager again and update driver a second time. This time click "Browse computer for driver software". Then on "Let me pick from a list of device drivers...". Click on "have disk". Locate the folder "C:\ATI\SUPPORT\9_3_vista32_win7_32_dd_ccc_wdm_enu\Packages\Drivers\Display\LH_INF" again. click on the updated "CL_76828" inf file Hey Presto! Now install the catalyst control center. Make sure that you don't use catalyst's Anti-aliasing or AF, and use the application's instead. Switch catalyst A.I to advanced for a slight fps boost in Counter-Strike Source and TF2. De-activate virus scanners and anti-spyware before playing, as they can affect performance.
