wrathloki _ I have read that ACX coolers can give off a weird whine at a certain speed. You might get some better info if you post on the EVGA forums or have a read on there. If it is normal for this cooler you could always set up a fan curve in Afterburner to miss the 70% speed ie tune out the bad noise.
Some update on the Inno3d Black Serie GTX980-ti : The onboard fan is a bit loose and might slightly touch the metal dissipator below, out of the box. Feel free to gently push the fan out of the board to fix the issue, no big deal really but it scared me at first . Might be an overall issue with Artic Accelero Hybrid cooling system.
So the general consensus is that these fans shouldn't be making that noise so I'm going to RMA it and hope that the replacement's at least as good of an overclocker.
5 °C advantage for G1, but it's twice as loud!!! You could swap those 5 °C for some dB, but I doubt it will get you to Inno3D whisper quiet levels. And that's with Inno3D GPU clearly not winning silicon(or coil whine) lottery - it has highest power draw.
That picture of noice is wrong in every way, check this one out its more acurate than that bull****, posted here. Or this if u want no internet bull**** @ all. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P9bDx-Irtug
I know but a few people on here and on overclock.net tested theirs out and got no weird noises so it's not supposed to do that. I also haven't found any references to anyone else with ACX 2.0+ with noise issues, just from old ACX. It's not just noticeable on a small range of speeds either, 60-68 it's there but not terrible, 68-72 really bad and 72-80 there but not terrible.
Some update on the 980-ti Inno3d black series Was at 1404 all along, switched to 1392 after alt-tab to desktop. That's completely out of the box, no oc, no ttweak, nothing. I'll update this post later on, benchmark night ahead ! At stock, out of the box: Futurmark Firestrike 1080p benchmark (graphic score : 19700, better than 99%): http://www.3dmark.com/3dm/7702062? got my missing Molex cable today, check metrics while 1440p maxed out Star Citizen : Updated: After some oc (i've original Bios, and am power-target limited to 106%): Core 1502Mhz , Mem 3900Mhz Usual Firestrike (21200 graphic score) : http://www.3dmark.com/fs/5381365 Firestrike 4k: http://www.3dmark.com/fs/5377637
I've no way to do a decent noise level check, all i can say is that i don't hear a thing except my h100i. It's really, really low noise.
I wasn't expected you to have something for mesuring dba level of course ^^ Thanks you for your answer and your feedback. Seems like a nice card. What are the max temp you saw while keeping the gpu silent ?
Thanks for the update! That looks quite impressive for out of the box performance. I'm very keen to see how far you'll be able to push it! Keep those results coming! Mine will hopefully be here on Monday or Tuesday. Edit: For anyone who's interested, there's a nice post on Reddit with OC's and scores for various cards: https://www.reddit.com/r/nvidia/comments/3cnd5o/post_your_nvidia_980_ti_overclocks_here/.
Lowering the temp reduces the chance of throttling which allows you to overclock higher. Extra voltage is also needed which is the magic ingredient thats missing from Maxwell. Keplar was much better for voltage increase.
Yet another 980 Ti in the club -- stock EVGA OC version, an upgrade from Gigabyte 780 Ti Windforce.
Congrats! Now overclock it! I have the EVGA SC and I was able to max it out at 1560/4000, but I play at 1500/3800 at a lower voltage.
Hey, planning on doing some OC tonight on mine, what's thé average voltage needed for 1500mhz boost clock?
Just popping in to say I'm also part of the 980Ti club now, having used EVGA's Step Up programme to replace the 980 in my HTPC with a stock ACX 2.0 model. This thing is amazing! It's quite happy playing games at UHD with a little tweaking here and there (and a massive overclock). Without wanting to start an AMD versus Nvidia debate, I think Nvidia have nicely countered the Fury X.
The regular fury is in oc 980 gm204 territory. A bit faster than a 10 month gpu. That isn't a counter either. It's a failure imo. Too little too late.
